उपसर्गाध्ययनं में बाह्य शरीर को विकृत करते हैं, उस प्रकार ये उपसर्ग बाहरी शरीर को विकृत नहीं करते, इसलिए ये स्थूल नहीं है, यहां 'संघ' पद आया है जो माता-पिता आदि रिश्तेदारों के संबंध का सूचक है। रिश्तेदारों के संबंध को लांघ पाना साधु पुरुषों के लिए भी कठिन है, प्रतिकूल उपसर्ग जो जीवन को संकट में, विपत्ति या कठिनाई में डाल देते हैं जब आते हैं तो यहाँ सत्व - आत्मबल के धनी पुरुष मध्यस्थ वृत्ति - तटस्थ भाव स्वीकार कर लेते हैं। उनसे प्रभावित नहीं होते, किन्तु अनुकूल उपसर्गों के उपस्थित होने पर तटस्थ भाव स्वीकारना दुष्कर है, अनुकूल उपसर्ग महापुरुषों को भी धर्म से पतित कर देते हैं । अतएव आगमकार ने अनुकूल उपसर्गों को दुस्तर या दुर्लघ्य- जिन्हें पारकर पाना कठिन है कहा है । जब अनुकूल उपसर्ग उपस्थित होता है तो आत्म शक्ति विहीन पुरुष शीतल विहारी-संयम के परिपालन में शिथिल, अस्थिर या ढीले हो जाते हैं । अथवा संयम का सर्वथा परित्याग कर देते हैं, वे संयमपूर्वक जीवन निर्वाह करने में असमर्थ हो जा

अप्पेगे नायओ दिस्स, रोयंति परिवारिया । पोषणे वाय । पुट्ठोऽसि, कस्स ताय ! जहासि णे ? ॥१॥ छाया अप्येके ज्ञातयो दृष्ट्वा रुवन्ति परिवार्य्यं । पोषय नस्तात ! पोषितोऽसि कस्य तात ! जहासि नः ॥

अनुवाद साधु के रिश्तेदार को देखकर उसे घेर लेते हैं और रोने लगते हैं - वे उसे कहते हैं - तात ! तुम हमारा क्यों परित्याग कर रहे हो हमने तुम्हारा लालन पालन किया है, अब तुम हमारा परिपोषण करो, पालन करो ।

टीका - तानेव सूक्ष्मसङ्गान् दर्शयितुमाह-'अपि : 'संभावने' एके' तथाविधा' ज्ञातव्य:' स्वजना मातापित्रादयः प्रव्रजन्ते प्रव्रजितं वा 'दृष्ट्वा' उपलभ्य 'परिवार्य' वेष्टयित्वा रुदन्ति रूदन्तो वदन्ति च दीनं यथा - बाल्यात् प्रभृति त्वमस्माभिः पोषितो वृद्धानां पालको भविष्यतीति कृत्वाततोऽधुना "नः" अस्मानपित्वं 'तात' ! पुत्र पोषय पालय, कस्य कृते - केन कारणेन कस्य वा बलेन तातास्मान् त्यजमि ? नास्माकं भवन्तमन्तरेण कश्चित्राता विद्यत इति ॥२॥ किञ्च

टीकार्थ आगमकार उन सूक्ष्म संबंधों को प्रकट करने के लिए कहते हैं - प्रस्तुत गाथा में 'अपि ' शब्द संभावना के अर्थ में प्रयुक्त हुआ है। इसका आशय यह है कि इस गाथा में जो बात कही गई है, वह संभव है - ऐसा होता है, मां बाप तथा उनके सदृश पारिवारिक जन प्रव्रजित - दीक्षित होते हुए या दीक्षा ग्रहण किये हुए साधु को देखकर उसे घेर लेते हैं, रोने लगते हैं, और दीनता दयनीता के साथ कहने लगते हैं पुत्र ! हमने बाल्यकाल से ही तुम्हारा पालन इसलिए किया कि हमारे बूढ़े होने पर तुम सेवा करोगे । अब तुम हमारा पालन करो। तुम किस कारण से या किसके सहारे हमें छोड़ रहे हो । हे तात ! तुम्हारे अतिरिक्त हमारा दूसरा कोई रक्षक नहीं है ।
