श्री सूत्रकृताङ्ग सूत्रम् मोक्षैकगमनहेतुः प्रतिषिद्धः अष्टमानमथनैरर्हद्भिः अवशेषाणि तु मदस्थानानि जात्यादीनि प्रयत्नेन सुतरां परिहर्तव्यानीति गाथाद्वयार्थः ॥ ४३ ॥४४॥ ?
टीकार्थ - उरग-उर-छाती से चलने वाला, रेंगने वाला सर्प, जिस प्रकार अपनी केंचुल को छोड़ देता है क्योंकि यह छोड़ने ही लायक होती है, उसी प्रकार संयताचारी साधक धूली कणों की तरह अपने आठ प्रकार के कर्मों को त्याग देते हैं। वे कर्म बंध नहीं करते क्योंकि वे कषाय रहित होते हैं । जब जब जीवन में कषाय का अभाव हो जाता है तभी जीवन में कर्मों का अभाव घटित होता है। मुनि जो भूत, वर्तमान और भविष्य इन तीनों कालों को जानते हैं । यह समझते हुए मद के वशगत नहीं होते - अहंकार नहीं करते ।
आगमकार मंद या अहंकार का कारण बतलाते हुए प्रतिपादित करते हैं - काश्यप आदि गौत्र मद स्थानों के - अहंकार के कारण होते हैं। यहां जो अन्यतर शब्द आया है । वह अन्यान्य गौत्रों के सूचन हेतु है, जो अहंकार पैदा करते हैं । इन गौत्रों में उत्पन्न व्यक्ति अपने को औरों से ऊँचा मानते हैं तथा अहंकार में धुत्त रहते हैं ।
'माहन' शब्द साधु के लिये आया है। कहीं-कहीं, 'जेविऊ' यह पाठ प्राप्त होता है जिसका आशय यह है कि साधु जाति, कुल और लाभ का अहंकार नहीं करते । साधु को अहंकार तो करना ही नहीं चाहिये वरन् किसी अन्य की निन्दा या अपकीर्ति भी नहीं करनी चाहिये । आगमकार यह दिग्दर्शन कराते हैं। यहां 'अथ' शब्द आया है जो अनन्तर का बोधक है । अन्य की निन्दा पाप उत्पन्न करती है उससे अशुभ का बंध होता है । इसलिये कभी किसी की निन्दा नहीं करनी चाहिये ।
नियुक्तिकार गाथा के अवयव आशय का संस्पर्श करने वाली दो गाथाएँ यहा उपस्थित करते हैं - महान् साधकों ने जब आत्मोत्कर्ष को संवर्द्धन करने वाले तपश्चरण, संयम और ज्ञान के अभिमान का भी परित्याग कर दिया है तब औरों की निन्दा करने का परित्याग करने की तो फिर बात ही क्या है ? वह तो सर्वथा छोड़ने योग्य है ही । उसका तो वे सहज ही त्याग कर देते । निर्जरा - मोक्ष गमन का - मुक्ति पाने का एकमात्र हेतु है । आठ प्रकार 'मान का मथन करने वाले अर्हतो ने उसके मद को भी वर्जित किया है अर्थात् उसका भी अभिमान नहीं करना चाहिये तो फिर जाति जन्म आदि अन्य मत स्थानों की उच्च जन्म जाति के आधार पर किये जाने वाले अहंकार की तो बात ही क्या है ? प्रयत्नपूर्वक इनका परित्याग कर देना चाहिये । यह दोनों गाथाओं का अर्थ है ।
जो परिभवई परं जणं, संसारे परिवत्तई महं । अदु इंखिणिया उपाविया, इति संखाय मुणी ण मज्जई ॥२॥ छाया यः परिभवति परं जनं, संसारे परिवर्तते महत् । अथ ईक्षणिका तु पापिका, इति संख्याय मुनि र्न माद्यति ॥
अनुवाद जो मनुष्य किसी दूसरे मनुष्य का परिभव- तिरस्कार या अपमान करता है, वह बहुत समय तक इस संसार सागर में भटकता रहता है। दूसरों की निन्दा से पाप संचित होता है, यह जानकर मुनि मदोन्मत् नहीं होते, किसी की निंदा नहीं करते हैं ।
