श्री सूत्रकृताङ्ग सूत्रम् केवल मन के द्वारा किसी के प्रति द्वेष करने से कर्म का उपचय-संग्रह या बंध नहीं होता, उनका यह कथन असत्यहै, उनका मन अशुद्ध है-उसमें धार्मिक निर्मलता, पवित्रता नहीं है, इस कारण वे संयम का अनुसरणआचरण करने वाले नहीं है । वास्तव में कर्मों का बंध करने में सबसे मुख्य कारण मन है, इसलिये पहले जिनवादियों की चर्चा आई है, उन्होंने भी मानसिक व्यापार चिन्तन या संकल्प के बिना केवल दैहिक व्यापार द्वारा-शारीरिक क्रिया द्वारा कर्म का उपचित-बद्ध न होना बताया है । इसलिये जो जिसके होने पर होता है तथा नहीं होने पर नहीं होता, वह उसका प्रधान कारण है । जैसे मन होने पर-मन में शुभ अशुभ संकल्प आने पर कर्म का बंध होता है, वैसा न होने पर कर्मोपचय नहीं होता । अतएव कर्म बन्ध का मुख्य हेतु मन ही है इस पर एक शंका उपस्थित की जाती है-पूर्वोक्तवादी ने दैहिक चेष्टा या उपक्रम के बिना केवल मानसिक व्यापार-मानसिक चिन्तन या संकल्प को कर्मबंध का हेतु न होना कहा है फिर आप ऐसा क्यों कहते हैं कि मन ही कर्म बन्ध का मुख्य हेतु है, वे भी तो मन को ही कर्मोपचय का प्रधान कारण बतलाते हैं ।
में इसका समाधान देते हुए आगमकार कहते हैं कि-यद्यपि आपने-उक्त वादी ने यह जरूर कहा है किन्तु आपका कहना युक्तियुक्त नहीं है क्योंकि आपने ही तो कहा है कि चित्त की विशुद्धि से मोक्ष प्राप्त होता है, ऐसा कहते हुए आपने मन को मोक्ष का प्रधान कारण बतलाया है, तथा आपने और भी कहा है कि जो चित्त राग द्वेषादि संक्लिष्ट भावों से वासित है वही चित्त संसार है-संसार में भटकने का हेतु है । यदि वह चित्त राग आदि से पृथक् हो जाय तो उसे संसार का अन्त कहा जाता है, अर्थात् वह सांसारिक बंधनो से छूटकर मुक्ति तक पहुंच जाता है । अन्य दार्शनिकों ने भी बतलाया है-हे मतिविभव ! - मननशील मन, मैं तुम्हें नमन करता हूँ, यद्यपि सभी पुरुष समत्त्व युक्त है-समान है, किन्तु तुम किसी के शुभ अंशों में और किसी के अशुभ अंशों में परिवर्तित हो जाते हो, यही कारण है कि कोई पुरुष नरक रूपी नगर की ओर जाने वाले रास्ते पर चलता है और कोई अपनी समचित उत्तम शक्ति-आत्म बल द्वारा सर्य मंडल का भेदन करता है-मोक्ष प्राप्त कर लेता है । इस प्रकार आपके सिद्धान्त के अनुसार क्लिष्ट मनोव्यापार-अशुभ परिणामयुक्त मानसिक अभिप्राय कर्मबंधन का कारण है ऐसा प्रमाणित होता है । ईर्यापथ में भी यदि व्यक्ति अनुपयुक्त-उपयोग रहित होकर चलता है तो उसे कर्मों का बंध होता है क्योंकि उपयोग नहीं रखना चैतसिक क्लिष्टता है । यदि वह व्यक्ति उपयोग युक्त होकरगमन क्रिया करता है तो उसे कर्मों का बंध नहीं होता, क्योंकि वह चलने में अप्रमत्तप्रमाद रहित है । कहा है-ईर्यासमिति से युक्त पुरुष जब पृथ्वी पर रखने हेतु अपना पैर उठाता है तो उसके पैर के नीचे आकर यदि कोई सूक्ष्म प्राणी व्यापादित हो जाय-मर जाय तो भी उस व्यक्ति को जरा सा भी पाप का उपलेप नहीं होता, ऐसा शास्त्रों में कहा है । इसका कारण यह है कि वह व्यक्ति सब प्रकार के प्राणियों के रक्षण में उपयोगयुक्त होने के कारण पाप रहित होता है ।
चित्त की शुद्धता के कारण स्वप्नान्तिक स्थिति में भी यत्किचिंत कर्मबंध होता ही है, आपने भी यह स्वीकार किया है कि स्वप्नान्तिक दशा में अव्यक्त, अस्पष्ट पाप होता है यों चैतसिक क्लिष्टापूर्ण व्यापार से कर्मबंध होता है, आपने यह कहा है । प्राणी-प्राणीज्ञान इत्यादि की चर्चा की है, यह सब अयुक्तियुक्त है । आपने यह जो प्रतिपादित किया कि घोर विपत्ति के समय राग द्वेष शून्य होकर पिता यदि पुत्र का मांस भक्षण कर लेता है तो भी उसे कर्मबंध नहीं होता, आपका यह कथन भी यर्थाथतः चिन्तन रहित है क्योंकि मैं मारता हूँ, जब तक चित्त में ऐसा परिणाम नहीं होता, तब तक कोई मारने के लिये उद्यत नहीं होता । जरा विचारियेमैं मारता हूँ, यह चैतसिक परिणाम क्या संक्लेश युक्त नहीं है ? क्या वह असंक्लिष्ट चित्तवृत्ति का द्योतक
