COMMENTARY-SUMMARY TRANSLATION
The Purusha, with his energy in the form of light, placed his three feet in the form of Agni. On this earth, in the form of Indra or lightning in mid-air, and in the form of the sun or Savità in the sky.
नवमी ऋक् । यो भूतैर्योतिषाऽद्भिर्भूम्या च त्रिभिस्त्रिवृतोऽस्य विसृष्टयै विश्वस्य भूयः ॥ त्रीणि पदानि नि दधे ता त्रिवृतान
तपसा धीभिः पुरुषं तं प्रपद्ये ॥९॥ पदपाठः - यः। भूतैः । ज्योतिषा । अत्ऽभिः । भूम्या । च । त्रिऽभिः।
त्रिऽवृतः । अस्य । विऽसृष्टौ । विश्वस्य । भूयः ॥ त्रीणि । पदानि । नि । दधे । ता । त्रिऽवृतानि । तपैसा । धीभिः । पुरुषम् । तम् । प्र । पद्ये ॥
He planted his three feet in the form of the three elements, light, water and air made triple or threefold in order to create this universe. I attain that Purusha by means of meditation and deep thought.
अन्वयभाष्यम्। ___ यः पुरुषः "ज्योतिः आपः भूमिः " इति एतैः त्रिभिः भूतैः त्रिवृतः त्रिगुणीभूतस्य अस्य प्रत्यक्षसिद्धस्य विश्वस्य सर्वस्य जगत: विसृष्टयै प्रादुर्भावार्थं ता तानि त्रिवृतानि प्रत्येकशः त्रिगुणीकृतानि त्रीणि भूतत्रितयात्मकानि पदानि निदधे कल्पयामास, तानि एतानि त्रिवृतानि सम्भावयामास, एतानि त्रिवृदितानि भूतानि निर्ममे, तं तादृशं पुरुषं परं दिव्यं चेतनात्मानं त्रिवृतेन त्रिवृत्करणक्लप्तेन धीयोगेन तपसा भूतत्रयसामरस्यविज्ञानेन तथा तदुदितेन एकीभावेन तद्भतत्रयाधिष्ठानभूतं मूलं पुरुषं प्राप्नोमीति ||
COMMENTARY-SUMMARY TRANSLATION
To create this universe which consists of the three elements, light, water and earth, he planted his three feet each one of them being tripled. This process of permutation and combination is called Trivștkarapa in the Upanishads. It is thus that variecies of names and forms are created.
