thousand rays. He exists in hundreds of forms. He is the life of all living beings. He is the Sun who rises” (Praśn. Up. 1-8). And again, "He has hands and feet all round. He has eyes and heads and faces all round. He has ears all round He stands encompassing all and everything in the world.”
This holds good in the negative description of the Purusha also. Cf. “He has neither hands nor legs; but he is quick and catches hold of anything. He has no eyes, but sees everything. He has no ears, but hears everything" (Svetas. Up. III-19). "Being attributeless, at the beginning of creation, he pervaded the sky. Manifesting in multiforms, he made the whole universe as his own" (Athar. Sam. ).
__सप्तमी ऋक् । पुरुषोऽसौ विश्वबाहुर्यः सहस्वान् विश्वशक्तियों विश्वकर्मा महस्वान् ॥ विश्वकामो यः सोमसत्त्वा मनस्वार
स्तपसा धीभिः पुरुषं तं प्रपद्ये ॥ ७ ॥ पदपाठः - पुरुषः । असौ । विश्वऽर्बाहुः । यः। सहस्वान् ।
विश्वऽशक्तिः । यः । विश्वकर्मा । महस्वान् । विश्वऽकामः । यः। सोमंऽसत्त्वा । मनस्वान् ।
तपसा । धीभिः । पुरुषम् । तम् । प्र । पद्ये ॥ This Purusha has arms all round. He is mighty. He is Omnipotent. He is capable of infinite work and therefore he is very great. He is full of infinite desires He is the essence of all that is sweet and tasteful. He has a mighty mind. I attain that Purusha by meditation and by intense thinking.
अन्वयभाष्यम् । यः असौ विप्रकृष्टः परः पुरुषः विश्वबाहुः सन सहस्वान् बलवीर्यादिसर्वक्रियाशक्तिका भवति, अत एव “ विश्वतो बाहु." "विश्वतो हस्त:" इति च अनुश्रूयते (ऋ.मं. १०-८१-३) (तै. सं. ४-२-६-४) तस्यैतदौपनिषदं ब्राह्मणानुवचनम् ,-" सर्वेषां कर्मणां हस्तौ एकायनम्" (बृ. उ. ४ ५-१२) इति । “सहस्रबाहुः पुरुषः" (अथव स १९६-१) इति || आथर्वणीये सहस्रशब्देन सह योगेन तद्वाहुनिदशः ||
यः सहस्वान् इन्द्रः इति श्रूयते, रुद्र इति च तवैद्युतात्मतत्त्वसामान्यात् ॥ तत्र
