COMMENTARY-SUMMARY TRANSLATION He is indeed a great one, a well-known Purusha. While still in the womb only, he knew himself, realised himself. With that self-knowledge, he manifested himself as Brahma in all the various forms everywhere. Cf: "I became Manu; I became Surya. I am the seer Kakshivan, vibrating with meditation. I blessed Kutsa, the son of Arjuna. I am the poet Uśana. Behold me" (Rg. IV-26-1).
Thus, the knowledge that 'I am all' (Sarvātmabhāva ) and the realisation that I am Brahma Himself ' ( Brahmatma anubhava) came to Vamadeva while still in the womb. Cf: “While still in the womb, I came to know the birth and manifestation of all these gods. One hundred steel armours protected me. Sleeping as I was, I came out like a falcon with speed" (Rg. IV-27-1).
पष्ठी ऋक् । यो अन्तस्तपसा ब्रह्मणा दिव्येन यो विश्वमित्र मुनिराबभूव ॥ मन्त्रकृद् विश्वामित्रो य ऋषिः
स सत्योऽयममृतो विश्ववेदाः ॥ ६ ॥ पदपाठः – यः । अन्तरिति । तप॑सा । ब्रह्मणा । दिव्येन ।
यः। विश्वऽमित्रम् । मुनिः। आऽबभूव ॥ मन्त्रऽकृत् । विश्वामित्रः । यः । ऋषिः।
सः । सत्यः । अयम् । अमृतः । विश्वऽवेदाः ॥ He the muni, indeed, became a Visvamitra, a friend of the universe with the help of his tapas, his mantras and super glory. He became the seer Viśvă. mitra, the seer of mantras. He is the truth, he is immortal and omniscient.
अन्वयभाष्यम्।
यः अन्तस्तपसा आन्तयेण महसा निर्विषयेण विमर्शन न तथा दिव्येन दिव्यभावसत्त्वेन सत्त्वशुद्धिरूपेण च ब्रह्मणा मन्त्रेण तथा तदिव्यमन्त्राभिमन्त्रितेन चरणा हविःसत्त्वेन सुवीर्येण संसिद्धेन ब्रह्मवर्चसेन दिव्येन अलौकिकेन महसा अध्यात्मतेजसा च विश्वमित्रं मित्रनाम्ना प्रसिद्धः सूर्य इव विश्वस्यास्य जगत: मित्रं मित्रस्थानीयः सम्बभूव सम्पन्नः इति प्रसिद्धिं जगौ, तथा च तस्यैवेदं मन्त्रदर्शनम् - मित्रो जनान् यातयति ब्रुवाणः .” इति सूक्तं
