परतमं सर्वान्तरात्मकं दर्शतं दर्शनीयं दर्शनार्ह पदं पश्यामि साक्षात्करोमि, तत् परीतं सर्वत्रव्याप्तं परमं पूर्ण पदं विश्वस्य अस्य जगतः दर्शयत् प्रकाशकं ज्योतिः इत्येव साक्षात्करोमीति भावः | तत्परञ्ज्योतिःस्वरूपः विश्वप्रकाशकः सर्वान्तरात्मा सः इन्द्र एवेति ॥ अत्राय विशेषः- “इन्द्रं मित्रं वरुणमग्निमाहुरथो दिव्यः स सुपर्णो गरुत्मान् । एकं सद् विप्रा बहुधा वदन्त्यग्निं यमं मातरिश्वानमाहुः इति" (ऋ. मं. १-१६४-४६) एवादिभिः मन्त्रवर्णैः तस्य- परमात्मनः इन्द्रादीनि बहूनि नामानि निर्दिष्टानि श्रूयन्ते ॥ तथैव तानि च तत्तद्विभूतियोगेन पृथक् पृथक् सूक्त्तेषु मन्त्रेषु च संस्तुतानि दृश्यन्ते | तेषां सर्वेषामपि नाम्नां मध्ये इन्द्राभिधानस्यैव महत्त्वं च प्रतीयते इन्द्रस्यैव सूक्तानां तन्मंत्राणां च सर्वेभ्यः आधिक्यात् ॥ तदिदं अस्माभिरेव अन्यत्र प्रतिज्ञातम् ॥
वैदिकस्तुतिसंयोगाद् यज्ञसम्बन्धतस्तथा । धात्वर्थस्य च सामर्थ्याद् इन्द्रनाम विशिष्यते ॥ इति ॥
|| इति चतुर्थेऽनुवाके प्रथम इन्द्रसूक्तं समाप्तम् ||
COMMENTARY-SUMMARY TRANSLATION Oh Bhagawân, you are full of all sorts of wealth and oh BỊhaspati, you are the lord of all speech and learning and full of omniscience. Oh, Indra, you are the Supreme Lord. You are practising tapas with full knowledge, tapas which is pure meditation, and hence an internal discipline. I perceive your fourth foot (highest state of consciousness ) which is transcendent and hence Supreme. It is superior to all the other three (jagrat, swapna and sushupti) and so includes them all. It is the only one which is worthy of realisation. It is invisible but everywhere, supreme and full. It is the light which illumines the whole universe, the light par excellence. It is the soul of all. I seek to realise him.
Thus ends the Second hymn in the Fourth Section.
