He, the Supreme and Brilliant Soul, in the beginning created waters for us to be able to live. He lies hidden here in the heart of the earth. He is Indra of the mid-world, the overlord of all.
अन्वयभाष्यम् । __ यः- असौ प्रसिद्धः दिव्यः आत्मा चेतनः दिवि व्याप्तः ज्योतिरात्मा केवलं चैतन्यज्योतिरात्मस्वरूपः विद्युदात्मकः सन् इह अस्मिन् प्रपञ्चे नः अस्माकं सर्वेषां प्राणभृतां जीवसे जीवभावेन आविर्भावार्थं चिरजीवनस्थितये च पुरा पुराकल्पे प्राग विश्वविसृष्टे: अपः अन्तरिक्षापरपर्यायाः अम्भो-जल-रसामृतस्वरूपा: सम्यक्तया सूक्ष्मस्थूलादिरूपेण आ समन्तात् जनयन् ज्योतिषः सकाशात् प्रादुर्भावयन् आस इति अभिप्रायः ॥ यश्च पुनः इह पृथिव्यां अस्मिन् अवमे लोके अन्तः समूळ्हः समूढः अग्निरूपेण ज्योतिषा निगूढः सन् समग्रां पृथिवीमधितिष्ठति || स: मध्यमः मध्यमभुवनाधिपतिः इन्द्रः विश्वेषां पति:। सः विश्वाधिपतिरपि मध्यमलोकाधिपतिरिति वेदे स्तुतः॥ सोऽयं भौमाग्निरपि इन्द्रस्यैव विद्यदात्मनो विभूतिविशेषः ज्योतिर्मयः इति ||
COMMENTARY-SUMMARY TRANSLATION He is the Atmă, the light of consciousness pervading the shining heavens. He is also light in the form of lightning. For us here, to be born as souls and to live long, he created waters before the universe came into being. The other name of waters' was Antariksha, the essence of waters in the form of Ambrosia. He created it from light, which process (evaporation ) is still on. Further, he lies hidden in the heart of this earth, in the lowest world as Fire. He is Indra of mid-world. Though he is the lord of the universe, he is known in the Vedas as the Lord of the mid-world.
पञ्चमी ऋक् । योऽन्वग्निं प्रातिष्ठिपत् पृथिव्यां रयिमन्त समिह शङ् गमध्यै ॥ रायो दाश्वान् यो विश्वस्य भूतय
इन्द्रो विश्वेषां पतिः स मध्यमः ॥ ५॥ पदपाठ :- यः । अनु । अग्निम् । प्र । अतिस्थिपत् । पृथिव्याम् ।
रयिऽमन्तम् । सम् । इह । शम् । गमध्यै ॥ रायः । दाश्वान् । यः । विश्वस्य । भूतये । इन्द्रः । विश्वेषाम् । पतिः। सः । मध्यमः ॥
