साहित्य समाज और जैन संस्कृत महाकाव्य 'असामाजिक व्यवहार'१ तथा 'समाज विरोधी व्यवहार'२ समाज की सुरक्षा के हित में न होने के कारण इसके अन्तर्गत नहीं पाते । ठीक उसी प्रकार साहित्य भी 'रामादिवत् प्रवर्तितव्यम् न रावणादिवत्'3 इस न्याय से सामाजिकता की ओर जाता है तथा असामाजिकता का विरोध करता है। मनुष्य भाषा प्रयोग एवं उदात्त भावनाओं के कारण पशुओं से कहीं अधिक ऊंचा है अतः लोक कल्याण की कामना मनुष्य से ही की जा सकती है ।४ साहित्य में भी सदैव सामूहिक कल्याण के तत्त्व निहित रहते हैं । मनुष्यों द्वारा मनुष्यों के लिए साहित्य का निर्माण होने से इसमें भी आदान-प्रदान का स्तर पर्याप्त ऊंचा होता है । साहित्य एवं समाज : उद्भव एवं विकास
