INTRODUCTION
The sacred Literature of the Svetāmbara Jains-the Sidhānta or Āgama as they call it-consists of the follows ing 45 works. ___I. Eleven Angas:
(I) आयारंग (आचाराङ्ग); (2) सूयगडंग (सूत्रकृताङ्ग); (3) ठाणंग(स्थानाङ्ग); (4) समवायंग (समवायाङ्ग); (5) विवाहपण्णत्ती (व्याख्याप्रज्ञप्ति) -generally referred to as भगवतीसूत्र; (6) नायाधम्मकहाओ(ज्ञाताधर्मकथा or ज्ञातृधर्मकथा); (7) उवासगदसाओ-(उपासकदशाः); (8) अन्तगडदसाओ-(अन्तकृतदशा:); (9) अणुत्तरोववाइयदसाओ-(अनुत्तरौपपातिकदशाः; (10) पण्हावागरणाई-प्रश्नव्याकरणानि; (II) विवागसुयंविपाकश्रुतम्.
II. Twelve Upangas :
(1) ओववाइय-(औपपातिकसूत्र); (2) रायपसेणइज्ज or रायंपसेणिय (राजप्रश्नीय- Wrong but traditional rendering of the title)'; (3) जीवाभिगम, (4) पाणवणा (प्रज्ञापना); (5) सूर or सूरियपण्णत्ती-सूर्यप्रज्ञप्ति; (6) जम्बुद्दीवपण्णत्ती-चम्बूद्वीपप्रज्ञप्ति; (7) चन्दपण्णत्ती-चन्द्रप्रज्ञप्ति; (8) निरयावली; (9) कप्पवडंसिया or कप्पावडंसियाओ-( कल्पावतंसिका:); (10) पुफियाओ-(पुष्पिका:); (II) पुप्फचूलियाओ-(पुष्पचूलिका:); (12) वण्हिदसाओ (वृण्णिदशा:)
____N. B.-It should be noted, however that the last five उपाङ्ग (8-12) comprise only ono book viz. 'निरयावलियाओ.' The remaining four, being very small in extent, are regarded as four sections of निरयावली.
III. Ten Prakirnas :
(१) चउसरण-(चतुःशरण); (२) आउरपच्चक्खाण-(आतुरप्रत्याख्यान); (३) भत्तपरिणा-भक्तपरिज्ञा; (४) संथार-(संस्तार);
† Dr. Hoernle, in the introduction to his Uvāsaga Dasão refers to this Anga as Dharmadnyātakathā; certainly a better arrangement of words in the compound.
