throne in S'aka 736 and reigned till S'aka 799. His capital was Mânyakheta or Malakheda. He was a great patron of literature. He composed a work called kavirajamârga in the old Kannada language on Alankâra sâstra. He is believed to have written a small Sanskrit poem called प्रश्नोत्तररत्नमाला the concluding verse of which is:
विवेकात्यक्तराज्येन राज्ञेयं रत्नमालिका | रचितामोघवर्षेण सुधिया सदलंकृतिः ॥
In the concluding pras'asti of the Uttarapurana it is stated that Amoghavarsha considered himself purified by falling at the feet of Jinasena and that Vîrasena was the teacher of Jinasena :

अभवदिह हिमाद्रेर्देवसिन्धुप्रवाहो ध्वनिरिव सकलज्ञात्सर्वशास्त्रकमूर्तिः । उदयगिरितटाद्वा भास्करो भासमानो मुनिरनु जिनसेनो वीरसेनादमुष्मात् ॥ यस्य प्रांशुनखांशुजालविसरद्धारान्तराविर्भवत्पादाम्भोजरजःपिशङ्गमकुटप्रत्यग्ररत्नद्युतिः । संस्मर्ता स्वममोघवर्षनृपतिः पूतोहमद्येत्यलं स श्रीमान् जिनसेनपूज्य भगवत्पादो जगन्मङ्गलम् ॥
Both Amoghavarsha and his teacher Jinasena are also mentioned in the Jayadhavalâ-tîkâ which was composed in Saka 759.
इति श्रीवीरसेनीया टीका सूत्रार्थदर्शिनी । मटग्रामपुरे श्रीमद्गुर्जरार्यानुपालिते ॥ फाल्गुने मासि पूर्वाह्णे दशम्यां शुक्लपक्षके । प्रवर्धमानपूजायां नन्दीश्वरमहोत्सवे ॥
