From even a cursory glance at the above it would appear that such conflicting views on the same topics could not have come from the pen of a single person and the identity of the authors can hardly be established.
It seems more likely that Vyomasiva was the fifth spiritual successor of Purandara Guru alias Mattamayūranatha, the founder of two mathas, one at Mattamayurapura, probably identical with Ma-yu-lo referred to by I-t'sing as in the neighbourhood of present Haridvara and the other at Ranipadra to be identified probably with the original site of the Ranode inscription in Gwalior State (see, J. A. S. B. Vol. XVI, p. 1080 and Prācīnalekhamālā, Nirnayasagara, Vol. II, 156 ).
In this inscription we find one Vyomasiva well-versed in almost all the systems of Indian philosophy - न्याय-वैशेषिक, मीमांसा, बौद्ध, जैन. सांख्य and चार्वाक. The inscription runs thus :
सिद्धान्तेषु महेश एष नियतो न्यायेऽक्षपादो मुनि
मोरे च कणाशिनस्तु कणभुक् शास्त्रे श्रुतौ जैमिनिः । सांख्येऽनल्पमतिः तः स्वयञ्च कपिलो लोकायते सद्गुरुबुद्धो बुद्धमते जिनोक्तिषु जिनः को वाथ नायं कृती ॥
