Sivādvaita-darpana (published in Belgaon in 1928 ), a work belonging to the Virašaiva school of South India. In the said work one finds a tabic of the ascetics of the Saiva school founded by Vasava in or about 1200 A. D. in Karnataka. It is mentioned therein that the author of the Saptapadārthi is Śivāditya Śivācārya which was his name before initiation. He is the author of the Saptapadārthi (Lakşanamālā ) in Vaišeșika philosophy and Saktisan doha in Virasaiva philosophy. After initiation he came to be called Vyomaśivācārya by his Guru, Siddhacaitanya Sivācārya. Vyomayati happens to be his work of the time when he entered the fourth stage of his life. The aforesaid identification is based on the colophon of a single manuscript preserved in a library in Bombay where it is mentioned that the name of the author is Vyomasiva. It may be noted that in other manuscripts the name of the author is mentioned as Sivāditya. It is believed that the names, Sivāditya and Vyomašiva, refer to one identical person ( see, Introduction to Saptapadārthi, Vizianagram Sanskrit Series, Benares ).
In our opinion this identification is not, however, confirmed by the findings of a comparative study of the two works. The views stated therein on identical problems are divergent. For illustrations we may quote a few only : In Saptapadārthi
In Vyomavati १. दिक् एकादशविधा
