This Vēda belongs to the class of priosts known as Adhvaryus. While the Hötr recites the hymns of the Rgvēda and the Udgāts sings the hymns of the Sāmavēda, the Adhvargu performs all the miscellaneous functions in the sacrifice. He is the custodian of the sacrificial fires and is the general conductor of all the details · of the whole sacrifice.
The whole of this Sambitá has been published in Roman character by Weber in Ind. Stud , Vols. XI and XII, 1871–72. and by the Bengal Asiatic Society in the Dāvanāgari character ; the latter edition is with the commentary of Sāyaṇa.
