INTRODUCTION
1. Mss. Material The Jinaratnakośa' has noted a number of Mss. of the Gitavītarāga (GV), also called Jināștapadi, from Arrah, Humch, Poona, Mysore and Belgol. A Ms. containing a Kannada commentary is reported from Moodbidri." For the present edition the following Mss. are used:
A: A paper Ms. (folios 124,21.5 by 15.5 cms.) in Kannada characters from Arrah. It gives its title as Gitavitarāga-prabandha. The text is accompanied by a Kannada commentary. The concluding colophon is given at the end, in this edition. In the same Ms. is included, at the end, the bare text of GV written in a different hand (folios 26). The concluding colophon is the same; but it opens thus :
श्रीकेसापुरदपार्श्वजिनेन्द्राय नमः This Kesāpura is a part of Kolhapur. Obviously this Ms. is copied in Kolhapur.
S: A paper Ms, ( folios 41-71, stitched at the left hand and ) containing only the text and written in Kannada characters.
