On the Vrata, which consists in worshipping Siva and in fasting at nights on the 8th and the 14th days in the bright and dark fortnights in every month, the Vrata being made to commence on the fourteenth day of the dark fortnight in any month
The observance of this Vrata is considered to have the power of leading one to the attainment of salvation. Beginning:
अथ नक्तोपवासस्य विधानं शृणु पाण्डव । येन विज्ञातमात्रेण नरो मोक्षमवामुयात् ॥ येषु केषु च मासेषु कृष्णपक्षे चतुर्दशी । बाह्मणान् भोजयित्वा तु प्रारब्धेषु तथा प्रति ॥ हे अष्टमीचतुर्दश्यौ मासि मासि प्रकीर्तितौ(ते)।
शिवार्चनपरो भूत्वा पूजितस्तु यथाविधि ।। End:
पृष्ठतः स्वर्गगामिनां कलेबरसमन्वितः ।
विधं(यद् विमानमारुह्य सुखेनैव सुरालयम् ॥ Colophon : इति भविष्योत्तरपुराणे अष्टमीचदुर्दशीव्रतकल्पं सम्पूर्णम् ॥
