This is a portion of the Märkandēga Purāņa, and treats of the greatness of Devi or Kālī, principally describing the destruction of the eight Asuras by Dēvi in her incarnations as Kali, Lakşmi and Sarasvati. The Māhātmya proper consists of 13 Adhyāyas, and is generally followed by five Athyāgas, three of which contain Argala, Kilaka and Kavaca, and two contain Rahagyatraya an'l Saktatraya. The work is also called Saptasati as it is made up of about 700 stanzas But the MS. under notice has the three Adhyayas containing Argala des. in the beginning, and counts three Adhyāyas in Rahasyatiaya alone; it omits altogether the Sūktatraya, but adus five more Adhyāyas on rules relating to the conduct of the worship of Dovi. The subject-matter of the chapters as found in the colophon is as follows१. दुर्गार्गळम्.
