Said to be from the Bhishma-Parvan of the Mahābhārata. It teaches the importance of self-realization in relation to salvation. Beginning :
गर्भवासजरामृत्यु(:) किमर्थ अमते नरः । किमर्थ रहिते जन्म कथं देवो जनार्दना(नः) ॥ मानवा(वो)मूढ अन्धस्य(श्च) संसारस्य(श्च)विलिप्य(लीय)ते । आश()मेके(कां)न तेदू(त्यज)न्ति जीवनं धनसंपदम् ॥ आशन(शा केन)जि ते(ता)प्राण(णाः) संसारविषबन्धनाः । केन कर्मप्रकारेण लोक(को)मच्छ(मुञ्च)ति बन्धनात् ॥
काम(:)क्रोधश्च(थ) अर्थश्च(थ) ममास्मिन्वर्तते सदा । एते मनसि वर्तन्ते कर्मनाशं(शः)कथं हरिः ॥
