This new and historic experience gave him wonderful insight into the various constitutional problems of India and his own State. The result of this great experience is already in the process of bearing fruit as is known to all by now.
Besides being au able aduninistrator, the Maharaja is an excellent horseman and a keen Polo player. He takes an active interest in all forms of sports, physical training and huntivg.
The new Maharaja is physically sturdy and strong. He is shrewd, observant, deep, thorough and self-reliant; he dislikes sycophaucy and half truths. He has natural dignity and his manners are jovial and unassumiug. Though quick in grasp and decision, he listens to all patiently and carefully. Endowed with a host of admirable qualities, His Highness the Maharaja Pratap Sinh Gaekwad is most fitted to succed to the noble heritage of his illustrious grandfather whose footsteps he is so scrupulous iu following
The new Maharaja ascended the throne on the 7th of February 1939, and within this short time, he has given ample proof of his future greatness. He gave away a crore of rupees for Village Uplift from his owu privy purse, granted perniauent remissions of land revenue, and invested his people with liberal constitutional reforms. May God bless the young Maharaja and grant hini a long life, continuous fame, honour and prosperity.
Besides the help received from His Highness the Maharaja Gackwad, I have to ackuowledge the financial assistance received from the University of Bombay. The authorities of this University granted a sum of Rs. 300/ in 1938 and Rs. 700/- in 1939 towards the cost of production. I am also thankful to the numerous professors, friends and well wishers for their continuous encouragement and syin pathy showu in the publication of this work.
In conclusion, I offer this humble work to the lotus feet of Lord Shri Ananta Bhagawau who in his divine grace became instrumental in bringing to light this index of ancient Indiau wisdom of the Upaniśads for the use of the inquisitive readers. HARI : OM TAT SAT
