न हि ज्ञानेन सदृशं पवित्रह विद्यते । तत्स्वयं योग संसिद्धः कालेनात्मनि विन्दति । ।
Going through the above shlok that underlines the supremacy of knowledge and enlightment for the purification of the soul, I really feel elated and honoured that a commoner like me has long been associated with the noble work of imparting knowledge to the common pupils, Nearly a decade ago, I felt hugely privileged when I was handed over the responsibility of being the secretary of the Managing committee of Shree Jain Vidyalaya, Kolkata. Needless to say, Shree Jain Vidyalaya, Kolkata has a long and glorious tradition of impartiing quality education, maintaining discipline among the students and toiling endlessly for the allround development of its pupils' personality. To keep up such a great lagacy was certainly a Herculean task. Hundred percent result of both the Madhyamik and Higher Secondary sections had become usual. The school had already earned a reputation. So, I took up the challenge and today I pride myself on saying that the school has taken a long incredible leap during the last decade. Hundred percent result is gradually turning into almost hundred percent first division. The last six years' results of Madhyamik and H. S. Sections are outstanding and the cause of concern and envy for our competitors. This is really a big achievement and such a great success has become possible owing to tireless endeavour of our Principals, teachers and above all the students. Here, I cannot help conveying my sincere thanks to Shree S. S. Jain Sabha for providing all sorts of support to school. The Sabha has been performing various benevolent works for society, yet it has done a tremendous and inspiring deed for the betterment of school. For this, I offer my heartiest gratitude to the icons
of Shree S. S. Jain Sabha. Shri S. M. Kankaria, Shree R. D. Bhansali, Shree R. K. Bothra and Shri S. S. Singhvi are among many officials of the Sabha who have been torch-bearers for us. They never shy away from any help needed by the School. Instead. They provide all active support. More often than not, they compel the students as well as the teachers to learn the intricacies of the profession (Learning and teaching) with the help of hard work, commitment and singlemindedness.
Notwithstaning our extra-ordinary achievements, we have been making efforts to uplift the school in order to face the modern challenges in the educational arena. Our contemporary achievements leave much to be desired. The sophisticated practical rooms with essential equipments for the science students and the computer classes for all are just the few steps in this regard. Shree Jain Vidyalaya, Kolkata has earned name and fame not only for its unequalled teaching and maintaining discipline but for being very generous to its pupils also. About ten percent of the total students enjoys the benefit of free studentship while more than that have got the advantage of the half-free studentship. The poor and brilliant students feel at ease in this school by availing themselves of the benefit of scholarships also. The rankholders and the students having the potential of keeping the school's flag flying are annually awarded with cash prizes. Not only this, the school takes care of its intelligent students even after passing from the school. Those students who are unable to bear the expenses of further and higher studies, are helped liberally by the school. So, I do not hesitate to say proudly that even in the age of stiff competition and pure professionalism, Shree Jain Vidyalaya is always ready to serve those who believe that knowledge is the greatest purifier and knowledge helps one in attaining purity of heart. Besides all these charitable acts, the school Manaing Committee, in a landmark decision decided to confer the "Vishista Pratibha Puraskar" (similar to Gold medal) to the exceptional budding prodigy of the school. Till date, about twenty promissing talents have been awarded with this "Puraskar". This "Puraskar" is mainly awarded to our ex-studens who have obtained a position or rank in higher studies like graduate, Post-graduate exams. engineering, medical, C.A., C.S., Management studies and in other such streams.
Contrary to the modern belief, we belive neither in publicity nor in celebrating mediocrity but we have firm faith in the following shloka of Rig Veda
ॐ संगच्छध्वं सं वदध्वं सं वो मनांसि जानताम् । देवा भागं यथा पूर्वे संजानाना उपासते।
Live and move ahead with love, knowledgeable Be active and dutiful like your ancestors.
