શ્રીમદભગવદ્ગીતા
કાએ પહોંચાડે છે. અનેક યજ્ઞ યાગ તીર્થ ઉપવાસ વગેરે સાધન આટલા માટે જ શેધી કાઢવામાં આવ્યાં છે. ટુંકામાં–સર્વ સારી ભાવનાઓ, વસ્તુતઃ થોડે ઘણે અંશે પરમાત્માની જ ભાવનાઓ હે પરમાત્મપ્રાપ્તિમાં સાહાસ્યકારી છે. અર્જુનને જે અધર્મને ત્રાસ છે, અને નરકની ભીતિ છે તે પણ એક પ્રકારનાં છેવટે પરમપદે પહોંચાડનારાં સાધન છે. કેટલાક કર્તવ્ય ખાતર કર્તવ્ય કરે છે, કેટલાક જનતાના કલ્યાણાર્થે કરે છે, કેટલાક સ્વર્ગ
Again, it is true beyond dispute that war is the parent, not of violence only or cruelty, but of the heroisms which elevate and ennoble human life. The real danger of the modern world, its corrupting and corroding influence, is material luxury, and that which follows luxury as its shadow-sensuous sin In times of peace and plenty men live secular lives; they eat and drink and forget God. They are apt to see the body above the soul, comfort above duty and time above eternity. It is the trumpetcall of war which bursts the subtle sensuous bands. Men arise, and show themselves once more to be men. They shake off the calculating spirit of ease and profit; they are eager to do greatly, and so suffer greatly; they feel a pride in daring and enduring, nay even in laying down their lives for a noble cause. The poet, whose verse I have already quoted, has spoken of one
“Who if he be called upon to face
Some awful moment to which Heaven has joined, Great issues, good or bad for human kind, Is happy as a lover; and attired,
With sudden brightness, like a man inspired.” The world could all afford to dispense with the moral qualities of manhood, the sudden, implicit obedience to the voice of duty, the steadfastness in adversity, the courage that will not allow itself to be subdued, the indestructible faith, the calm endurance of agony, above all the loving ministries which wait, like guardian angles, among Christrian nations, upon the pain and misery of the battlefield."- The Bishop of Calcutta on war,
