વિદ્ધારક શ્રી મહાવીર જૈન સમ્ર ટ સ પ્રતિના (ડે. ત્રિભુવનદાસ લ. શાહ કૃત) તૃતીય ખંડના પ્રથમ પરિચ્છેદમાં જણાવ્યા પ્રમાણે “ અષ્ટાપદ, મમ્મત શિખર, ગિરનાર, ચંપાપુરી અને શ્રી અપાપા એ તીર્થકરને પાંચ નિવણક્ષેત્રમાં પ્રિયદર્શીએ જ્યાં લેખો કોતરાવ્યા છે ત્યાં તેણે પોતાના રાજચન્હ સમી અને તીર્થકરોના ગર્ભ પ્રવેશ પ્રસંગે તીર્થકરોની માતાઓએ નિહાળેલાં ચૌદ સ્વપ્નમાં પ્રથમ નંબરનું સ્થાન ધરાવતી હસ્તિની આકૃતિ કોતરેલી છે, તેમાંથી કાસી (અષ્ટાપદ), ધૌલી (સમેતશિખર ), ગિરનાર ને રૂપનાશ (ચંપાપુરી) એ ચાર જગ્યાએ તો તેની સાથે હાથીની આકૃતિએ મળી આવ્યાનું એજ અન્યના પૃષ ર૦૫ થી ૨૧૪ પર જણાવવામાં આવ્યું છે ' એ જ પ્રમાણે ભગવાન મહાવીરના નિવણસ્થળ સમા આ સચી તીર્થમાં પણ પર્વતની તળેટીમા શિલા પર બે હાથી કોતરેલા મળી આવ્યા છે.૩૦ તળેટીમાં જન સમ્રાટ સંપ્રતિના લેખ જો કે નથી મળી આવ્યા પણ ટેકરી ઉપર
30 "The sixth inscription is undated. It is cut on a flat piece of rock, at the foot of the Sanchi hill; and contains, so far as I could make out, the words Srima, Saktayah, Saktih and Mitranandasya: which seem to point to a fixed tantric mithraic worship : while the rude carving below it, is of a Buddhist. character. This is mere outline sketch, represent-100 two rather well-drawn elephants, each with arms mahavat, and a monkey holding on behind. They support with their trunks, a seat or throne, above thuch, but seated in the air, is a cross legged, longe. eared figure, with hands in his lap.'
