Traivarṇikācāraḥ
1. There are fourteen types of śrotāras (listeners) who are the causes of the scriptures. They are of three kinds: superior, middling, and inferior in the world. (23)
2. The names of the fourteen types of śrotāras are: go (cow), haṃsa (swan), mṛccikā (mud), śuka (parrot), ajā (goat), sarpa (snake), mahiṣa (buffalo), śilā (stone), kaṅkaććhidra (sieve), ghaṭa (pot), daṃśa (mosquito), mārjāra (cat), and jalauka (leech). (24)
3. The superior śrotāras are: go (cow), haṃsa (swan), mṛccikā (mud), and śuka (parrot). The middling śrotāras are: ajā (goat), śilā (stone), and ghaṭa (pot). The remaining seven are considered inferior śrotāras, who are devoid of the knowledge of the scriptures. (25)
