त्रैवर्णिकाचार शिशोर्मातरि गर्भिण्यां चूलाकम न कारयेत । गते तु पञ्चमे वर्षे दोपयेन हि गर्भिणी ।।.१५० ॥ आरभ्याधानमाचौलं कर्मातीतं तु यद्भवेत् ।
आज्यं व्याहृतिभिर्तुत्वा मायश्चित्तं समाचरेत् ।। १५१॥ चौल नाम बालकके मुंडन ( जडूला उतारने) का है। यह मुंडन प्रायः सभी जातियोंमें होता है, जो वालकको पुष्ट और बलिष्ठ बनाता है, उसीका जैनशास्त्रोंके अनुसार कथन किया जाता है। पहले, तीसरे, पांचवें अथवा सातवें वर्षमै गृहस्थ अपनी कुलपरंपराके अनुसार बालकका चौल कर्म करें । वालककी माताके गर्भवती होनेपर चौलकर्म करनेसे या तो माताका गर्भ गिर जाता है या यह बालक मर जाता है । इसलिए माताके गर्भवती होते हुए बालकका चौलकर्म न करे । हां, यदि बालक पांच वर्पका हो गया हो और माता गर्भवती हो तो चौलकर्म करनेमें कोई दोष नहीं है । गर्भाधानसे लेकर चौलकर्मतक की क्रियाएं यदि न हुई हो तो व्याहृति मंत्रके द्वारा आज्याहुति देकर प्रायश्चित्त ले ले ॥ १४७-१५१ ॥
चौलाई बालकं स्नायात्सुगन्धशुभवारिणा ।
भेऽन्हि शुभनक्षत्रे भूपयेद्वस्त्रभूषणः ॥ १५२ ॥ पूर्ववद्धोमं पूजां च कृत्वा पुण्याहवाचनः । उपलेपादिकं कृत्वा शिशुं सिञ्चेत्कुशोदकैः ॥ १५३ ॥ यवमापतिलबीहिशमीपल्लवगोमयैः । शरावान् पद पृथक्पूर्णान् विन्यस्येदुत्तरादिशि ॥ १५४ ।। धनुःकन्यायुग्ममत्स्यसपमेपेषु राशिषु । ततो यवशरावादीन् विन्यस्येत्परितः शिशोः ॥ १५५ ।। क्षुरं च कर्तरी कूर्चसप्तकं घर्षणोपलम् । निधाय पूर्णकुम्भाग्रे पुष्पगन्धाक्षतान् क्षिपेत् ॥ १५६ ॥ मात्रङ्कस्थितपुत्रस्य स धौतोऽग्रे स्थितः पिता । शीतोष्णजलयोः पात्रे सिञ्चेञ्च युगपजलैः ।। १५७ ।। निशामस्तु दधि क्षिप्त्वा तज्जले तैः शिरोरुहान् । सव्यहस्तेन संसेच्य मादक्षिण्येन घर्षयेत् ॥ १५८ ॥ नवनीतेन संघर्ण्य क्षालयेदुष्णवारिणा ।
