24. Somasena Bhattaraka has said that one should sleep with the head facing the east direction at home, the south direction at the in-laws' house, and the west direction while traveling. One should never sleep with the head facing the north direction.
25. One should not sleep on grass, in a temple, on stones, on leaves, in the courtyard, in the doorway, in the middle of the house, on vacant land, on piles of earth, near leftovers, in an empty place, in a crematorium, at the base of a tree, at a crossroads, in a place of spirits, in a snake's den, near another woman or a thief.
26. A Shravaka (Jain lay follower) who is devoted to the family tradition should never sleep in such places.
27. During the menstrual period of the wife, one may engage in conjugal activities. But when the wife is not in the menstrual period, one should abstain from such activities, as per the view of some.
28. The rites related to garbhadhana (the ritual to conceive a child) should be performed during the day. The sowing of the seed (sexual intercourse) for conception should be done at night, as per the injunction.
29. After urination and other such acts, one should wash the genital area with the water of the three myrobalans (triphala). Then, in the last quarter of the night, one should engage in conjugal activities in the bedroom.
30. First, one should wash the feet, then lie down on a comfortable bed. One should avoid sleeping on a hard or uncomfortable bed.
31. The householder should keep the slippers, a bamboo stick, a water pot, and other such items near the bed.
