Hemacandia was busy in his literary and sociorcligio-activiucs ill death in the regime of Kumarapāla where he breathed his last in 1172 A. D I WORKS : Notwithstanding his social, religious and legal reforms Hemacandra is known in the circle of literature as an important author in all the fields 112. grammar, lexicography, poetics, metrics, plulosophy, caritas and original devotional poetry. He wrote not only original worhs but also commentarics on them. Due to his prolific authorship in all the fields he was given thc epithet 'Kalıkālasarvajña'i c. omniscient of the Kalı Age
His Abhidhānacintamani, Anekārthasangraha, Anchärthaścsa, Chālsarīnāmamālā, Désīnāmamālā, Scsasangraha and Nighantuścsa not only enlist the words in Jain and Baudda tradition which were omitted by previous authors like Amarasimha and Halāyudlia but the crcdit of bringing aristocracy and popular words together als goes to Hemacan. dra in his Deśīnāmamālā which is a collection of the popular words including those borrowed from languages like Persian.
