વરા-રાઃ
प्रवक्ति शास्त्रं महतीमहिंसा
संन्यासिनां गेहवतां लघु च । संकल्पतः स्थूलशरीरभाजां
निरागसां हिंसनवर्जरूपाम् ।।
જ શાસ્ત્રમાં અહિંસાનું મહાવ્રત સાધુ-સંન્યાસી જીવન માટે બતાવ્યું છે, જ્યારે ગૃહસ્થ માટે અહિંસાનું અણુવ્રત જણાવ્યું છે. ગૃહસ્થ માટે પ્રરૂપાયેલી “આણુ” અહિંસાની મર્યાદા નિરપરાધ “સ્કૂલ” (“સ” અર્થાત હાલતા-ચાલતા) પ્રાણીઓની ઈરાદાપૂર્વક હિંસાથી વિરમવામાં છે. ૪૧
* The scriptures have ordained the great or comprehensive vow of non-violence for ascetics and the small or limited one for householders. The latter consists in not intentionally killing innocent or unoffending animals who are Trasa (moving or mobile) beings. 41.
