आभार और निवेदन । ___ अब इस प्रस्तावनाको यहीं पर समाप्त करते हुए, हम उन सभी विद्वानोंका हृदयसे आभार मानते हैं जिनके ग्रंथों, लेखों अथवा पत्रोंसे हमें इस 'प्रस्तावना' तथा 'स्वामीसमन्तभद्र' नामक ऐतिहासिक निबन्ध ( इतिहास ) के लिखने में कुछ भी सहायता मिली है। साथ ही, यह भी प्रकट कर देना उचित समझते हैं कि इस प्रस्तावनादिके लिखे जानेका खास श्रेय ग्रंथमालाके सुयोग्य मंत्री सुहृद्वर पं० नाथूरामजी प्रेमीको ही प्राप्त है जिनकी सातिशय प्रेरणासे हम इस कार्यमें प्रवृत्त हुए और उसीके फलस्वरूप यह प्रस्तावना तथा इतिहास लेकर पाठकोंके सामने उपस्थित हो सके हैं। प्रस्तावनाको प्रारंभ किये हुए वर्ष भरसे भी ऊपर हो चुका, इस बीचमें बीमारी, और तज्जन्य निर्बलताके अतिरिक्त साधनसामग्रीकी विरलता तथा ऐतिहासिक प्रश्नोंकी जटिलता आदिके कारण कई बार इसे उठाकर रखना पड़ा और साधन सामग्रीको जुटाने आदिके कार्यमें लगना पड़ा। बीस बाईस दिनतक देहली ठहरकर एपिग्रेफिया कर्णाटिका ( Epigraphia Carnatika ) की भी बहुतसी जिल्दें देखी गई, और अनेक विद्वानोंसे खास तौर पर पत्रव्यवहार भी किया गया। प्रस्तावनाको हाथमें लेते हुए यह नहीं समझा गया था कि यह सब कार्य इतना अधिक परिश्रम और समय लेगा अथवा इसे इतना विशाल रूप देना पड़ेगा। उस समय साधारण तौर पर यही खयाल कर लिया गया था कि दो तीन महीनेमें ही हम इसे पूरा कर सकेंगे । और शायद इसी आशा पर प्रमीजीने ग्रंथके छप जानेका उस समय नोटिस भी निकाल दिया था, जिसकी वजहसे उनके पास ग्रंथकी कितनी ही मांगें आई और लोगोंने उसके मेजनेके लिये उनपर बार बार तकाजा किया। परंतु यह सब कुछ होते हुए भी प्रेमीजी इधरके आशातीत और अनिवार्य विलम्बके कारण हताश नहीं हुए और न लोगों के बार बार लिखने तथा तकाजा करनेसे तंग आकर, उन्होंने विना प्रस्तावनादिके ही इस ग्रंथको प्रकाशित कर देना उचित समझा; बल्कि उस.
