The translation preserving the Jain terms is as follows:
The Shravakas (lay followers) perform the Ratnakarandaka (a set of religious practices) with the intention of becoming worthy of the Acharyas (spiritual preceptors). When they do so, it is not due to the desire for fame. Even if they are not asked, they willingly offer (to the Acharyas). And if they do not perform it, the attainment of the desired fruit is not obstructed due to the special divine power. For, in the worship of the Chakravartin (universal monarch), the servants do not obtain the fruit as much as the Chakravartin himself.
Now, showing the nature of the heretical and deluded person, he says: The praise of the Pashandins (heretics) who are engaged in the violence of starting scriptural studies and other activities, and who are wandering in the cycle of rebirth, is known as the deluding of the heretics.
The deluding of the heretics is to be known. Who is that? 'The praise' - appreciation. Of whom? 'Of the Pashandins' - those who have the mark of false belief. What kind of them? 'Who are engaged in the violence of starting scriptural studies and other activities' - the scriptures like servants and slaves, and the activities like agriculture, etc., and the various kinds of killings of living beings along with them. Similarly, 'who are wandering in the cycle of rebirth' - those whose conduct is in the cycle of rebirth, such as marriage and other karmas. These three deluded ones possess the complete absence of right faith, which is the cause of the cessation of the cycle of rebirth, like the one possessed of humility.
Who is this humility, and of how many kinds is it? He says: They consider knowledge, worship, family, caste, strength, prosperity, penance, and physique as the eight sources of pride. The ones who have lost this pride are called 'the ones who have lost pride'.
The one who, due to this eightfold pride, surpasses others in the religious principles, he transgresses his own religious duty. There is no religion without the religious people.
