चोरेणोक्तं प्रिये ! किमेवे स्थितासीति । तयोक्तं श्रीकीर्तिश्रेष्ठिन्या हार यदि मे ददासि तदा जीवामि त्वं च मे भर्ता नान्यथेति श्रुत्वा तां समुदीर्य अर्धरात्रे गत्वा निजकौशलेन तं हारं चोरयित्वा निर्गतः । तदुद्योतेन चौरोऽयमिति ज्ञात्वा गृहरक्षकैः कोट्टपालैश्च ध्रियमाणो पलायितुमसमर्थो वारिषेणकुमारस्याने तं हारं धृत्वाऽदृश्यो भूत्वा स्थितः। कोट्टपालैश्च तं तथालोक्य श्रेणिकस्य कथितं देव ! वारिषेणश्चौर इति। तं श्रुत्वा तेनोक्तं मूर्खस्यास्य मस्तकं गृह्यतामिति। मातंगेन योऽसिः शिरोग्रहणार्थ वाहितः स कण्ठे तस्य पुष्पमाला बभूव । तमतिशयमाकर्ण्य श्रेणिकेन गत्वा वारिषेणः क्षमा कारितः । लब्धाभयप्रदानेन विद्युच्चौरेण राज्ञो निजवृत्तान्ते कथिते वारिषेणो गृहे नेतुमारब्धः । तेन चोक्तं मया पाणिपात्रे भोक्तव्यमिति । ततोऽसौ सूतसेनमुनिसमीपे मुनिरभूत् । एकदा राजगृहसमीपे पलासकूटग्रामे चर्यायां स प्रविष्टः । तत्र श्रेणिकस्ययोऽग्निभूतिमंत्री । तत्पुत्रेण पुष्पजलेन स्थापितं चया कारयित्वा स सोमिल्लां निजभार्या पृष्ट्वा प्रभु पुत्रत्वाद्वालसखित्वाच्च स्तोकं मार्गानुव्रजनं कर्तुं वारिषेणेन सह निर्गतः । आत्मनो व्याघुटनार्थ क्षीरवृक्षादिकं दर्शयन् मुहुर्मुहुर्बन्दनां कुर्वन् हस्ते धृत्वा नीतो विशिष्टधर्मश्रवणं कृत्वा वैराग्यं नीत्वा तपो ग्राहितोऽपि सोमिल्लां न विस्मरति । तौ द्वावपि द्वादशवर्षाणि तीर्थयात्रां कृत्वा वर्धमानस्वामिसमवशरणं गतौ । तत्र वर्धमानस्वामिनः पृथि-. व्याश्च सम्बन्धिगीतं देवैर्गीयमानं पुष्पडोलेन श्रुतं । यथा
" मइलकुचली दुम्मनी नौहे पविसिय एण ।
कह जीवेसइ धणियघर उज्झते हियएण ॥" एतदात्मनः सोमिल्लायाश्च संयोज्य उत्कण्ठितश्चलितः। स वारिषेणेन ज्ञात्वा स्थिरीकरणाथै निजनगरं नीतः । चेलिन्या तौ दृष्टा वारिषेणः किं ... १ लाडेन ख । २ नाहेए वसियएण ख ।

One day, while wandering, he entered the village of Palasakuta near Rajagriha. There, he met the merchant's minister, Agnibhuti. The minister's son, Pushpajala, arranged for him to stay there. After asking his wife, Somilla, "My lord, due to your son's love and my own desire, I want to travel a little with Varishena," he left with Varishena.

To distract himself, he showed him milk trees and other things, and kept him bound with his hand. He was taken to a place where he heard about the special Dharma, and he became detached. Even though he had taken up asceticism, he did not forget Somilla.

Both of them traveled to holy places for twelve years and went to the shelter of Vardhamana Swami. There, they heard the celestial beings singing a song about the relationship between the earth and the sky, accompanied by a flower-filled swing. The song went:

"I will not enter the house of the wealthy with a deceitful heart.
How can one live with a deceitful heart, leaving behind the house of the wealthy?"

Hearing this, he became anxious and worried about Somilla. He told Varishena about it, and Varishena took him back to his city to calm him down.
