( ३ ) किसी भी ग्रंथ अथवा शिलालेखादिमें ऐसा कोई स्पष्ट उल्लेख नहीं मिलता जिससे यह साफ तौरपर विदित होता हो कि उक्त माघनंदी, धरसेन, पुष्पदंत, भूतबलि, तथा गुणधर, नागहस्ति, आर्यमक्षु, यतिवृषभ और उच्चारणाचार्य, ये सब अथवा इनमेंसे कोई भी - कुन्दकुन्दकी आचार्यसंततिमें अथवा उनके बाद हुए हैं । कुन्दकुन्दके बाद होनेवाले आचार्योंकी जगह जगह अनेक नाममालाएँ मिलती हैं, उनमें से किसीमें भी इन आचार्यों का कोई नाम न होने से इन आचार्योंका कुन्दकुन्दके बाद होना जरूर खटकता है । हाँ एक स्थानपर श्रवणबेलगोलके १०५ (२५४) नम्बर के शिलालेखमेंये वाक्य जरूर पाये जाते हैं—
यः पुष्पदन्तेन च भूतबल्याख्येनापि शिष्यद्वितयेन रेजे । फलप्रदानाय जगज्जनानां प्राप्तोङ्कराभ्यामिवकल्पभूजः ॥ अर्हद्बलिस्संघचतुर्विधं स श्रीकोण्डकुन्दान्वयमूल संघ | कालस्वभावादिह जायमान- द्वेषेतराल्पीकरणाय चक्रे ॥ सिताम्बरादौ विपरीतरूपेऽखिले विसंधे वितनोतु भेदं । तत्सेन- नन्दि-त्रिदिवेश-सिंहस्संघेषु यस्तं मनुते कुदृक्षः ॥
इन वाक्योंमें यह बतलाया गया है कि " पुष्पदन्त और भूतबलि दोनों अलिके शिष्य थे और उनसे अर्हद्वलि ऐसे राजते थे मानों जगज्जनों को फल देनेके लिये कल्पवृक्षने दो नये अंकुर ही धारण किये हैं । इन्हीं अर्हद्बलिने कालस्वभावसे उत्पन्न होनेवाले रागद्वेषों को घटानेके लिये कुन्दकुन्दान्वयरूपी मूलसंघको चार भागों में विभाजित किया था और वे विभाग सेन, नन्दि, देव तथा सिंह नामके चारसंघ हैं . इन चारों संघों में जो वास्तविक भेद मानता है वह कुदृष्टि हैं । "
