________________ १०६ स्वामी समन्तभद्र । नेमिदत्त के इस कथन में सबसे पहले यह बात कुछ जीको नहीं लगती कि ' कांची ' जैसी राजधानी में अथवा और भी बड़े बड़े नगरों, शहरों तथा दूसरी राजधानियोंमें भस्मक व्याधिको शांत करने योग्य भोजनका उस समय अभाव रहा हो और इस लिये समंतभद्रको सुदूर दक्षिण से सुदूर उत्तर तक हजारों मीलकी यात्रा करनी पड़ी हो । उस समय दक्षिण में ही बहुतसी ऐसी दानशालाएँ थी जिनमें साधुओं को भरपेट भोजन मिलता था, और अगणित ऐसे शिवालय थे जिनमें इसी प्रकारसे शिवको भोग लगाया जाता था और इस लिये जो घटना काशी (बनारस) में घटी वह वहाँ भी घट सकती थी । ऐसी हालत में, इन सब संस्थाओंसे यथेष्ट लाभ न उठाकर, सुदूर उत्तर में काशीतक भोजन के लिये भ्रमण करना कुछ समझमें नहीं आता । कथामें भी यथेष्ट भोजनके न मिलने का कोई विशिष्ट कारण नहीं बतलाया गया - सामान्यरूपसे प्रेरणासे, दोनों कथाकोशों में दी हुई समन्तभद्रकी कथाका परस्पर मिलान किया है और उसे प्राय: समान पाया है । आप लिखते हैं- " दोनों में कोई विशेष फर्कं नहीं है । नेमिदत्तकी कथा प्रभाचन्द्रकी गद्यकथाका प्रायः पूर्ण पद्यानुवाद है । पादपूर्ति आदिके लिये उसमें कहीं कहीं थोड़े बहुत शब्द - विशेषण अव्यय आदिअवश्य बढ़ा दिये गये हैं । नेमिदत्तद्वारा लिखित कथा के ११ वें श्लोक में 'पुण्ड्रेन्द्र नगरे' लिखा है, परन्तु गद्यकथा में 'पुण्ड्रन गरे' और 'वन्दक - लोकानां स्थाने' की जगह 'वन्दकानां बृहद्विहारे' पाठ दिया है । १२ वें पद्य के 'बौद्धलिंगकं' की जगह 'वंद - कलिंगं' पाया जाता है । शायद 'वंदक' वौद्धका पर्यायशब्द हो । 'कांच्यां नग्मा - टकोऽहं' आदि पद्योंका पाठ ज्योंका त्यों है। उसमें 'पुण्ड्रोन्द्रे' की जगह 'पुण्ड्रोण्द्रे' 'कविषये' की जगह 'ठक्कविषये' और 'वैदिशे' की जगह 'वैदुषे' इस तरह नाममात्रा अन्तर दीख पड़ता है ।" ऐसी हालत में, नेमिदत्तकी कथाके इस सारांशको प्रभाचंद्रकी कथाका भी सारांश समझना चाहिये और इस पर होनेवाले : विवेचनादिको उस पर भी यथासंभव लगा लेना चाहिये । Jain Education International For Personal & Private Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
