स्वामी समंतभद्र ।
स्पष्टीकरण होता है । अस्तु, इस विषयका यदि और भी अच्छा अनुभव प्राप्त करना हो तो उसके लिये स्वयं समंतभद्रके ग्रंथोंको, देखना चाहिये । उनके विचारपूर्वक अध्ययनसे वह अनुभव स्वतः हो जायगा। समन्तभद्रके ग्रंथोंका उद्देश्य ही पापोंको दूर करके-कुदृष्टि, कुबुद्धि, कुनीति और कुवृत्तिको हटाकर-जगतका हित साधन करना है । समंतभद्रने अपने इस उद्देश्यको कितने ही ग्रंथोंमें व्यक्त भी किया है, जिसके दो उदाहरण नीचे दिये जाते हैं
इतीयमाप्तमीमांसा विहिता हितमिच्छतां ।
सम्यग्मिथ्योपदेशार्थविशेषप्रतिपत्तये ॥ ११४ ॥ यह आप्तमीमांसा' ग्रंथका पद्य है । इसमें, ग्रंथनिर्माणका उद्देश्य प्रकट करते हुए, बतलाया गया है कि यह 'आप्तमीमांसा' उन लोगोंको सम्यक् और मिथ्या उपदेशके अर्थविशेषका ज्ञान करानेके . लिये निर्दिष्ट की गई है जो अपना हित चाहते हैं । ग्रंथकी कुछ प्रतियोंमें 'हितमिच्छतां' की जगह ' हितमिच्छता' पाठ भी पाया जाता है। यदि यह पाठ ठीक हो तो वह ग्रंथरचयिता समंतभद्रका विशेषण है और उससे यह अर्थ निकलता है कि यह आप्तमीमांसा हित चाहनेवाले समंतभद्रके द्वारा निर्मित हुई है। बाकी निर्माणका उद्देश्य ज्योंका त्यों कायम ही रहता है. दोनों ही हालतोंमें यह स्पष्ट है कि यह ग्रंथ दूसरोंका हित सम्पादन करने उन्हें हेयादेयका विशेष बोध करानेके लिये ही लिखा गया है ।
न रागानः स्तोत्रं भवति भवपाशच्छिदि मुनौ न चान्येषु द्वेषादपगुणकथाभ्यासखलता। किमु न्यायान्यायप्रकृतगुणदोषज्ञमनसां । हितान्वेषोपायस्तव गुणकथासंगगदितः ॥
