277–285. These Sutras give the indeclinables and particles of THAT.
286. This Sutra means that the base of siltaat is hele Tree or the principal Prakrit, and only special characteris tics of this dialect are mentioned here from 260 to 285. In brief these special characteristics of Thai are :
(a) The change of a in Sanskrit words to 7, and of 4, to s. See Sutras 260-262; 273-274; 276 and 267-268.
(b) The change of to tz and retention of w in the root 4. See 266; 269.
(c) Some peculiar forms of declention of words ending in consonants. See 263-265.
(d) Forms of the Absolutive in t and put in addition toत्ता and कडुभ and गडुभ from the roots कृ and गम्. See 271-272.
(e) The future tense having fan in stead of le, fa or . See 275.
(f) A few additional particles such as, citot, al, 119, 9T ETAM, ET, 37FRE and eret. See 277-285.
287-302. These Sutras describe the characteristics of मागधी. This dialect retains all the characteristics of शौरसेनी which is as it were the base of मागधी.
287. The Nom. sing. form of masculine words ending in z is obtained in arreft by changing the ar to g; e. g. ge, for एषः, मेशे for मेषः etc. यदपि etc.; there is an old saying "पोराणमद्धमागहHieraai 89% TT,” “the old Sutras of the sacred canon of the Jains are writuen in the dialect called afara. Now
