## Chapter 123: Special Action for Subduing Attachment to Conduct
**693**
**151.** When the knowledge of the self is contaminated by delusion, then attachment to delusion arises. This attachment to delusion is the first stage of greed, and it contaminates the knowledge of the self.
**152.** When the knowledge of the self is contaminated by greed, then attachment to greed arises. This attachment to greed contaminates the knowledge of the self.
**153.** Due to these reasons, the time-bound six *avalis* (stages of maturation) are experienced in the *gadas* (states of existence).
**154.** Just as the cause of the maturation of the six *avalis* in the *gadas* for the newly bound time-bound *karma* of the *purushaveda* (human being) has been explained, similarly, even though this method does not apply to the maturation of other *karmas*, the *karmas* that are bound from the beginning of the *paramasamayakala* (the time of the ultimate liberation) until this point, also mature after the six *avalis* have passed.
**155.** This explanation is merely an example, and it should be accepted as proof with certainty.
**156.** From the beginning of the *antarakaraṇa* (inner organ) until this point, the action of *auttakarana* (subduing) takes place. This *karma* is not eligible for maturation during this period of transition. Therefore, it cannot mature within the fourth *avali*. Similarly, the *karma* of the *purushaveda* that has been transferred from the previous *karma-pradesha* (field of *karma*) to the first *avali* of the *krishti* (stage of maturation) of delusion, then to the second *krishti* of delusion, and then to the first and second *krishti* of greed, cannot mature during this period. This fifth *avali* is not eligible for maturation. The *karma* of the *purushaveda* that has been transferred from the previous *karma-pradesha* to the first *avali* of the *krishti* of delusion, then to the second *krishti* of delusion, and then to the third *krishti* of greed, cannot mature during this period. Therefore, this sixth *avali* is also not eligible for maturation. Due to these reasons, maturation is attained after the six newly bound time-bound *avalis* have passed. Therefore, it is said that maturation occurs only after the six *avalis* have passed. || 145 - 153 ||
**Commentary:** Just as the maturation of the newly bound time-bound *karma* of the *purushaveda* occurs after the six *avalis* have passed, similarly, even though this method does not apply to the maturation of other *karmas*, the *karmas* that are bound from the beginning of the *paramasamayakala* until this point, also mature after the six *avalis* have passed. This is the rule. This explanation is merely an example, and it should be accepted as proof with certainty. || 154 - 155 ||
**Commentary:** From the beginning of the *antarakaraṇa* until this point, the action of *auttakarana* takes place.
