**Verse 115:**
**30.** When a being abandons *sanjama-sanjama* (the state of complete restraint), it does not experience a *sthiti-ghata* (loss of state) or *anubhaga-ghata* (loss of experience). **31.** While in the state of *sanjama-sanjama*, it continuously experiences *guna-shreni* (series of qualities) at every moment. When it attains purity, it experiences *asankhyeya-gunita* (infinitely multiplied), *sankhyeya-gunita* (finitely multiplied), *sankhyeya-bhag-uttar* (finitely divided), or *asankhyeya-bhag-uttar* (infinitely divided) *guna-shreni*. When it attains *sanklesha* (affliction), it experiences *asankhyeya-guna-hina* (infinitely diminished), *sankhyeya-guna-hina* (finitely diminished), or *vishesha-hina* (diminished in specific qualities) *guna-shreni*. **32.** If a being abandons *sanjama-sanjama* due to *agunjaya* (intense affliction) and attains *michchhatva* (false belief), it still regains *sanjama-sanjama* through *antar-muhurta* (a very short period of time) by the power of *yoga* (spiritual practice). Even then, it does not experience *sthiti-ghata* or *anubhaga-ghata*. (This is because the causes of *adha-pravritti* (downward tendencies) are absent at that time.)
**Explanation:**
The shortest duration of *sanjama-sanjama* is *antar-muhurta* (a very short period of time), and the longest duration is *antar-muhurta* plus one *purva-koti* (a billion) years minus eight years. If a being remains in *sanjama-sanjama* for the longest duration, it still experiences *asankhyeya-gunita* (infinitely multiplied) *nirjara* (destruction) of *karma* (karmic actions) over time. However, the difference is that the *nirjara* will be *asankhyeya-gunita*, *sankhyeya-gunita*, or *vishesha-adhik* (specifically increased) depending on the level of purity attained within that time. Similarly, if it experiences intense or mild *sanklesha* (affliction), the *nirjara* will be *asankhyeya-guna-hina*, *sankhyeya-guna-hina*, or *vishesha-hina* (specifically diminished) accordingly. However, there is no time during the entire period of *sanjama-sanjama* when *karma-nirjara* does not occur.
In essence, during the longest or shortest duration of *sanjama-sanjama*, there is always a sixfold increase or decrease in purity or affliction, leading to the four types of *karma-nirjara* mentioned in the sutras. No period of *sanjama-sanjama* is devoid of *karma-nirjara*. It is important to note that the extent of *guna-shreni* remains constant at one *sahasra* (thousand) throughout.
**Note:**
* *Agunjaya* refers to intense affliction that causes a being to abandon *sanjama-sanjama*.
* *Jayadharacharya* (a Jain commentator) explains *agunjaya* as *sanklesha-bharena-atara-ghurnana* (intense affliction that causes a being to fall into *atara-ghurnana* (a state of intense agitation)).
