## [Chapter 94] Description of the Nature of A-puvva-karaṇa
**79.** At the first time of A-puvva-karaṇa, the inferior portion of the two-part division is like a *palya* (a measure of weight) in terms of its number, and the superior portion is like an ocean in terms of its distinctness. **80.** The two-part division is A-puvva. **81.** The *anu-bhāga-khaṇḍa* (sub-division) is the infinite multitude of parts of the *a-praśasta-prakrti* (unrefined nature). **82.** The *pradeśa-guṇa-hāni* (loss of quality of a region) is the least of the *thova* (competitors) in relation to the *pada* (word). **83.** The *a-icchā-vaṇā-phala* (results of non-desire) are infinite in number. **84.** The *nikṣepa-phala* (results of deposit) are infinite in number. **85.** The *āgāi-da-phala* (results of going forward) are infinite in number. **86.** The *guṇa-śreṇī-nikṣepa* (deposit of the series of qualities) of the actions excluding *āyu* (life-span) at the first time of A-puvva-karaṇa is greater than that of *a-nivṛtti-karaṇa* (non-cessation) and also greater than that of A-puvva-karaṇa. **87.** The time of the *sthiti-kāṇḍa* (portion of the state) and the time of *sthiti-bandha* (binding of the state) are equal in A-puvva-karaṇa. **88.** In one *sthiti-kāṇḍa*, thousands of *anu-bhāga-khaṇḍa* are destroyed. **89.** When the *sthiti-khaṇḍa* is completely destroyed, the time of *adhaḥ-pravṛtti-karaṇa* (downward-moving action) ends.
**74-78**
**Commentary:** At the first time of A-puvva-karaṇa, the inferior *sthiti-khaṇḍa* (portion of the state) is like a *palya* (a measure of weight) in terms of its number, and the superior *sthiti-khaṇḍa* is like an ocean in terms of its distinctness. At the last time of *adhaḥ-pravṛtti-karaṇa* (downward-moving action), the *a-puvva-sthiti-bandha* (previous binding of the state) occurs at the first time of A-puvva-karaṇa, which is less than the *palya* (a measure of weight) in terms of its number. At the first time of A-puvva-karaṇa, the *anu-bhāga-kāṇḍa-ghāta* (destruction of the sub-division) is the infinite multitude of parts of the *a-praśasta-prakrti* (unrefined nature). As *viśuddhi* (purification) increases, the *anu-bhāga* (sub-division) increases, but the *anu-bhāga-ghāta* (destruction of the sub-division) does not.
**79-81**
**Commentary:** Now the commentator explains the greatness of the *anu-bhāga-kāṇḍa-ghāta* (destruction of the sub-division) by saying that it is *alpa-bahutva* (small multitude).
**Commentary:** The *anu-bhāga* (sub-division) related *spardhaka* (competitors) that are after the *pradeśa-guṇa-hāni-sthāna* (place of loss of quality of a region) are the least compared to the *pada* (word) that will be described. The *spardhaka* (competitors) of *ati-sthāpana* (superimposition) are infinite times greater than them (because even the inferior ones are found within *ati-sthāpana* after infinite *guṇa-hāni-sthāna* (places of loss of quality)). The *spardhaka* (competitors) related to *nikṣepa* (deposit) are infinite times greater than the *spardhaka* (competitors) of *ati-sthāpana* (superimposition). The *spardhaka* (competitors) that are taken as *anu-bhāga-kāṇḍa-rūpa* (in the form of the sub-division) are infinite times greater than the *spardhaka* (competitors) related to *nikṣepa* (deposit) (because here, excluding the infinite part of the possible *dvi-sthānīya-anu-bhāga-sattva* (existence of two-place sub-division), the rest of the infinite multitude of parts are taken as *kāṇḍa-rūpa* (in the form of the sub-division)). At the first time of A-puvva-karaṇa, the *guṇa-śreṇī-nikṣepa* (deposit of the series of qualities) of the actions excluding *āyu* (life-span) is greater than that of *a-nivṛtti-karaṇa* (non-cessation) and also greater than that of A-puvva-karaṇa. In A-puvva-karaṇa, the time of the *sthiti-kāṇḍa* (portion of the state) and the time of *sthiti-bandha* (binding of the state) are equal (because the time of both is only *antar-muhūrta* (a very short time)). It is special that the time of the first *sthiti-kāṇḍa* and the time of *sthiti-bandha* are progressively less. In the time of one *sthiti-kāṇḍa*, thousands of *anu-bhāga-kāṇḍa* (sub-divisions) are destroyed (because the time of the *anu-bhāga-kāṇḍa* (sub-division) is less than the time of the *sthiti-kāṇḍa* (portion of the state) by a number of times). When the *sthiti-kāṇḍa-ghāta* (destruction of the portion of the state) ends, the time of *anu-bhāga-kāṇḍa-ghāta* (destruction of the sub-division) and the time of *sthiti-bandha* (binding of the state)
