60. Kasaya Pahuda Sutta [8. Catussthana Arthadhikara (28) Of these places, which place is the first, which is the second, and which is the third?
1. Bound, being bound, subsiding, or risen up. [1]
2. In the conscious, in the unconscious, in the perfect, in the imperfect, in the right belief, in the wrong belief, and in the mixed. [2]
3. In the abstinent, in the non-abstinent, in the partly abstinent and partly non-abstinent, in the householder, in the homeless, in the yoga, and in the lesya. [83]
The kasaya (passions) are indeed destructive. This arrangement is the same in all the four places of the kasayas, and this gatha is composed independently to explain this fact.
The acaryas say the following gathas and sutras to determine the specific decision regarding the bondage, living beings, etc. in the above-mentioned places in the realms of gati, etc.
In which of the above-mentioned places are the bound, being bound, subsiding, or risen up found in which gati? [81]
The resolution of all the questions raised in this gatha will be given based on the following gathas.
The above-mentioned sixteen places should be known as far as possible in the conscious, unconscious, complete, incomplete, right belief, wrong belief, and mixed belief. [82]
Specific meaning - The above-mentioned sixteen places are found in the realms of sanni (conscious) etc., this is indicated by mentioning the words sanni-asanni, paryapta-aparyapta, and samyaktva-mithyatva-misra in the gatha. Similarly, the realms of samyama (restraint) are indicated by the words virati (abstinence) etc., the realm of darsana (faith) by the word anakaraupayoga, the realm of jnana (knowledge) by the word sakaraupayoga, the realm of yoga by the word yoga, and the realm of lesa by the word lesya. Thus, these two gathas clearly indicate the information about the above-mentioned nine realms. The remaining five realms are indicated by the word 'ca' or 'caiva' in the gatha.
