## Chapter 58: Determining the Interval of *Bhūjā-kāra* and *Alpā-tara* *Saṁkrama*
**433.** What is the interval of time for the *Bhūjā-kāra* and *Alpā-tara* *Saṁkrama* of *Śaṅkā*, *Hāsa*, *Rati*, *Ara-ti*, and *Śoka*?
**434-435.** The shortest interval is one *Samaya* and the longest interval is one *Anta-muhūrta*.
**436.** How can one *Samaya* be the shortest interval for the *Bhūjā-kāra* and *Alpā-tara* *Saṁkrama* of *Śaṅkā*, *Hāsa*, *Rati*, and *Ara-ti*, and *Śoka*?
**437-438.** If you want to know the shortest interval for the *Bhūjā-kāra* *Saṁkrama* of *Hāsa* and *Rati*, then you should bind *Ara-ti* and *Śoka* for one *Samaya*. And if you want to know the shortest interval for the *Alpā-tara* *Saṁkrama*, then you should bind *Hāsa* and *Rati* for one *Samaya*.
**439.** What is the interval of time for the *Avaktavya* *Saṁkrama* of *Hāsa*, *Rati*, *Ara-ti*, and *Śoka*?
**Explanation:**
If a being is bound to *Hāsa* and *Rati*, and then binds *Ara-ti* and *Śoka* for one *Samaya*, and then again binds *Hāsa* and *Rati*, then the interval of time for the *Bhūjā-kāra* *Saṁkrama* of *Hāsa* and *Rati* is one *Samaya*.
Similarly, if a being is bound to *Ara-ti* and *Śoka*, and then binds *Hāsa* and *Rati* for one *Samaya*, and then again binds *Ara-ti* and *Śoka*, then the interval of time for the *Alpā-tara* *Saṁkrama* of *Ara-ti* and *Śoka* is one *Samaya*.
The shortest interval of time for the *Bhūjā-kāra* and *Alpā-tara* *Saṁkrama* of *Ara-ti* and *Śoka* should be determined in the same way.
**Note:**
* *Bhūjā-kāra* *Saṁkrama* refers to the transition of a being from one state of mind to another, where the new state is a stronger version of the previous state.
* *Alpā-tara* *Saṁkrama* refers to the transition of a being from one state of mind to another, where the new state is a weaker version of the previous state.
* *Avaktavya* *Saṁkrama* refers to the transition of a being from one state of mind to another, where the new state is not easily definable.
* *Samaya* is a unit of time, roughly equivalent to a few seconds.
* *Anta-muhūrta* is a unit of time, roughly equivalent to 48 minutes.
