Sutra 8]
Exposition of Kevalismudghata 4. In the second part, he says that it destroys innumerable parts. 5. And he says that it destroys infinite parts of the remaining anubhaga (residual karmic matter) which are inauspicious. 6. Then in the second moment, he performs the Kavata (door). 7. In the remaining second part, he says that it destroys innumerable parts. 8. And he says that it destroys infinite parts of the remaining anubhaga which are inauspicious.
The Kevalismudghata, which the Kevali-Jinas perform to equalize the status of the non-destructive karmas, i.e., expand their soul-space upwards, downwards and sideways, has four stages: Danda, Kavata, Pratar and Lokpurana. The commentator is now describing these.
Churni Sutra - The Sayogi-Kevali Jinas perform the Danda-samudghata in the first moment. In that, they destroy innumerable multitudes of the status of the karmas. And they destroy infinite multitudes of the inauspicious anubhaga of the remaining (karmic matter).
Vishesha-artha - The Sayogi-Kevali Jinas perform the samudghata either in the Padmasana or Khagasana, facing eastwards or northwards. In the Danda-samudghata performed by the Kevali from the Khagasana, the soul-space expands to the size of the main body and spreads out in the shape of a sword, extending to less than fourteen Rajju in width, which is why it is called Danda-samudghata. If the Sayogi-Jinas perform the samudghata from the Padmasana, the expanse of the danda-shaped space is thrice the size of the main body. There is no difference whether the face is directed eastwards or northwards in the Danda-samudghata. However, differences do arise in the subsequent samudghatas, which will be explained later. In this Danda-samudghata, it destroys multitudes of the status of the non-destructive karmas which were in the innumerable part of a Palyopama. And it also destroys multitudes of the inauspicious anubhaga that remained at the end of the twelfth gunasthana. So many actions take place in the Danda-samudghata. In this samudghata, only the Audarikakayyoga occurs.
Churni Sutra - Then in the second moment, they perform the Kavata-samudghata. In that, they destroy innumerable multitudes of the remaining status of the non-destructive karmas, and they destroy infinite multitudes of the inauspicious anubhaga of the remaining (karmic matter).
Vishesha-artha - Just as the Kavata (door) is limited in expanse compared to the vastness, but is extensive in width and height, similarly in the Kavata-samudghata, the soul-space of the Kevali-Jinas becomes fourteen Rajju long and seven Rajju wide, less than the Vatavalaya. The vastness in the Khagasana of the Kevali should be understood to be of the size of the main body, and in the Padmasana, it should be understood to be thrice that. In this samudghata, the difference in expansion arises depending on whether the face is directed eastwards or northwards. That is, those whose face is directed eastwards, their expansion is seven Rajju in the north-south direction. But those whose face is directed northwards during the samudghata, their expansion is equal to the expanse of the Loka in the east-west direction. In this Kavata-samudghata, the Kevali Bhagavan has the Audarikamiśrakayyoga.
