________________ ( 3 ) वृत्ती ममासे, खराणां दीर्घ इखा वहुलं भवतः । मिथः परस्पर हखस्य दीर्घा दीर्घस्य च इखः । Some times in Samasa or compound words a long vowel is converted into a short one and a short into a long as-अंतावेइ, (अन्तर्वेदी); सत्तावीसा, (सप्तविंशतिः) कचिन्न Hafa, sometimes such change does not take place as जुवनणो, (युवतिजनः); कचिदिकल्पः, and in some instances it is optional as पईहरं, पदहरं (प्रतिगृह) णमोत्तं णमोत्तं (नदोशोतः); वहुमुई, वहमुहं (बहु[५] मुखं) ; कपउरं, कणऊर (कर्णपुरं); मिरोवेश्रणा, सिरवेत्रणा, (शिरोवेदना); पीआपीचं, पित्रापित्रं (पीतापीत) सरोरूह, सररुहं (सरोरुह) ; भुत्रवत्तं, भुत्रावत्तं (भूर्जपत्र) पल्लिवद, पल्लीवदू (पल्लोपति); गामणीसुत्रो, गामणिसुत्रो (ग्रामणोसुतः); अंतउरं, तेउरं (अन्तःपुरं) ; अक्खउहिणी, अक्खोहिणी (पक्षीहिणी); ॥ पदयोः सन्धिवा ।। ५ । संस्कृतोतः सर्वः मन्धिः प्राकृते पदयोर्व्यवस्थितविभाषया भवति । When two words come in immediate conjunction, all sorts of union (सन्धिः ) under the rules of the Sanskrital grammar, are optional in the Prakrita ; as दहि दूसरो, दहीमरो, (दधीश्वरः); वासेमी, वास एसी, (व्यासर्षिः) पदयोरितिकि? Note that the above rule applies to the case of immediate conjunction of two words, for there is never any union in one word, as पायो, (पादः)। Aho ! Shrutgyanam
