महात्म-विभूतिः
साधु
Sadhus (Saints)
(33) Those who, by their exertions, accomplish real welfare, are Sadhus in the real sense of the term. Those who are good in their relations to all, are Sadhus, Those whose mental, vocal and physical activities are good, are Sádbus.
विशिष्टः साधुवेषोऽपि यद्यप्यौचित्यमंचति । तथापि न हि वेषेऽस्ति साधुत्वं किन्तु जीवने ॥ ३४ ॥
વિશિષ્ટ સાધુવેય પણ ઉચિત છે, પણ વસ્તુતઃ સાધુત્વ વેષમાં નથી, કિન્તુ नमा छे. (३४)
(34) It is, no doubt, proper for a Sadhu to put on special garments usually meant for a Sãdhu, but, to all intents and purposes, real asceticism consists not in the special dress, but in the mode of life led,
विनापि साधुवेषेण साधवः सन्ति साधवः। योगेऽपि साधुवेषस्याऽसाधवो न हि साधवः
॥ ३५ ॥
સાધુ-વેષ વગર પણ જેઓ સાધુ છે, તેઓ સાધુ છે, જ્યારે સાધુને ધારણ કરવા છતાં જેઓ અસાધુ છે તેઓ સાધુ નથી. (૩૫)
(35) Those who lead the life of a Sádbu (in & fitting manper), even without putting on the special garments of Sadhus, are certainly Sadhus. But those who, though olothed in the garments of a Sadbu, are wicked in their conduct, do not deserve to be regarded as Sadhus.
