चतुर्ष-प्रकरणम्
37. So long as the progress of snoh evils as pride, deceit and greed is not checked, anger cannot be subdued, nor is spiritual tranquillity aoquired.
विवेकनेत्रं हरताऽस्मदीयं मानेन तीवो विहितोऽपराधः । न त्यज्यते तच्श्रयणं तथापि कीदश्यहो ! मूढधियः प्रवृत्तिः ॥ ३८ ॥
૩૮. અમારા વિવેકરૂપ નેત્રને હરણું કરતા અહંકાર દોષે અમારા જબરો અપરાધ કર્યો છે, છતાં તેને પલે નથી મુકાતો ! કેવી મૂઢ દશા!
88. Pride bas committed the heinous offence of robbing us of our sight in the form of right understanding. Notwithstanding we do not refrain from resorting to such & terrible enemy! What a foolish action is this?
विवेक-दुग्धं यदि रक्षणीयं तद् दर्प-सर्पण न संगतं स्यात् । विद्यासुधादीधिति-शीतमासो मानाभ्रविध्वंसनतः स्फुरन्ति ॥ ३९ ॥
૩૯ વિવેકરૂપ દૂધનું જે સંરક્ષણ કરવું હોય તે દરૂપ સર્ષ (મદરૂપ નાગ) સાથે તેને સંગ ન થવા દેવું જોઈએ. અભિમાનનાં વાદળો જ્યારે વિખરાય છે ત્યારે વિદ્યારૂપ સુધાકરની શુભ્ર સ્ના પ્રકાશમાન થાય છે.
39. If the milk of discrimination is to be preserved, it should be protected against the serpent in the form of pride or arrogance. The cool moon-light of learning shines forth when the olouds of pride are dispersed.
विचार्यमाण प्रतिभाति सम्यक् स्थानं न मानाचरणस्य किञ्चित् । प्रत्यक्षमालोक्यत एवं विश्वे कश्चिद् दधानोऽधिकतां कुतश्चित् ॥ ४०॥
