जीवन-भूमिः
पूर्णपावित्र्यचारित्रान् नमस्कृत्य महात्मनः ।
किश्चिदत्र समाचक्षे सुखौपयिकगोचरम् ॥१॥ પૂર્ણ પવિત્ર ચારિત્રધારક મહાત્માઓને નમરકાર કરી સુખની પ્રાપ્તિના ઉપાય વિષે કંઈક અત્ર કહીશ. ૧
(1) Having bowed to high-souled ones possessed of the perfect purity of conduct, I here briefly relate about the way to happiness.
आकांक्षति सुखं सर्वस्तदर्थं च प्रयस्यति । परं तदस्ति कुत्रेति विज्ञातव्यं सुमेधसा
॥२॥
બધા સુખને ચાહે છે અને તે માટે પ્રયાસ કરે છે, પણ તે શેમાં છે એ સુજ્ઞોએ સમજવું જોઈએ. ૨
(2) All long for happiness and strive to secure it; but the wise must find out wherein it lies.
न तदस्ति धने हयेऽलंकारेऽर्थे परत्र वा । परन्तु मन एवास्ति स्थानकं तस्य वास्तवम्
॥३॥
તે ધનમાં નથી, હવેલીમાં નથી, આભૂષણોમાં નથી અને એવી બીજી કોઈ ચીજમાં નથી, પણ તેનું ખરું સ્થાન મન છે. ૩
(3) It lies neither in riches, nor in mansions, por in orng. ments, nor in such other things; but its real dwelling is mind.
