________________ hatred, jealousy, intolerance and malice. These emotions are more deadly than the poison which the scorpion carries in its sting. The yogi, by stamping on his own head with his feet, attempts to eradicate these self-destroying emotions and passions. Thus he seeks to develop humility, calmness and tolerance, and to become free from ego, for subjugation of the ego leads to harmony and happiness. PRISHTHASANA BSY Prishthasana (back pose) Stand erect with the feet one foot apart and the toes turned out to the sides. Bend the knees, bringing them as close to the floor as possible. Simultaneously, bend the trunk backward from the waist. Move the arms back and reach down to grasp the ankles. Bend the head back. Try to lower the head and back nearer to the floor. Hold the final position for as long as is comfortable. Alternatively, the hands may be placed on the waist to support the backward movement of the spine, and then moved down the thighs and legs. 334
