230 Tattvarthasutra
[9.47 Just as the mind, wandering in various unstable subjects throughout the entire world, is centered and made stable on any one subject through meditation, when stability becomes firm, the mind becomes completely peaceful like a fire that is extinguished by extracting a lot of fuel and igniting a little remaining fuel, or by removing all the fuel. Thus, as the mind attains stability on one subject, it becomes entirely calm, i.e., it becomes free from agitation and remains unshaken. As a result, when all coverings of knowledge are dissolved, omniscience is revealed.
Subtle Activity Suppression - When the omniscient Lord, in the process of yoga suppression, ultimately, taking refuge in the subtle body, stops the remaining yogas, that meditation is called subtle activity suppression (sūkśma kriya pratipāti), because only a subtle activity, like inhalation and exhalation, remains in it, and there is no possibility of downfall from it.
Complete Cessation of Activity - When even the subtle activities of the body, such as breathing, cease, and the soul's region becomes entirely unshaken, that meditation is called the complete cessation of activity (samucchinna kriya nivṛtti), because in this state, there are no mental, vocal, or physical activities, either gross or subtle, and that state does not get destroyed later. By the influence of this fourth meditation, liberation is attained due to the complete cessation of all influx and bondage, with the remaining karma diminishing. In the third and fourth pure meditations, there is no support of any kind of scriptural knowledge, hence they are also called unsupported (analaṃbana). 39-46.
The gradation of the karmic eruption of right believers includes the right believer, the listener, the renouncer, the one who separates from infinite bondage, and the destroyer of delusion, the pacifier, the one who has calmed delusion, the destroyer, the one who has diminished delusion, and the Jina, these ten gradually lead to countless qualities' dissolution.
1. This sequence is such that, with the support of the gross body yoga, the gross speech and mind yoga are made subtle. After that, the subtle speech and mind yoga are taken as support to make the gross body yoga subtle. Then, by taking the subtle body yoga as support, the subtle speech and mind yoga are restrained, and finally, the subtle body yoga is also restrained.
