In the city of Ucchanagara, where the womb of the Nyagrodhika tree flourished, there resided the renowned Kumud, born of the illustrious father Swati and mother Vatsi. With the support of Arhats and the guidance of the noble Guru, having comprehended the true teachings, he gazed upon the world suffering in distress, cut off from the difficult path.
This is the essence: "Whose revered guru was Kshaman, the holder of the eleven limbs, and whose teacher was the primary speaker Shivashri; whose spiritual guides were the speaker Acharya Mul and the great speaker Mundapad; belonging to the lineage of Kaubhishani, son of father Swati and mother Vatsi, born in Nyagrodhika."
The branch of Ucchanagara, possibly associated with the city of Badnagar in Gujarat, presents challenges in determining its exact connection to Jain traditions during its emergence, as the main seat of Jain teachers at that time appears to have been towards the Ganges-Yamuna region. However, some scholars suggest that it might also relate to the fort named Ucchanagar in present-day Bulandshahr in northwestern India.
