Classification of Leshyas among the Deities
107
3. Generally, deities experience pleasure-pain (sukha-vedana). If they experience pain (duḥkha-vedana), it does not last longer than an inner moment. Even pleasure-pain changes after six months of remaining the same.
4. Upapāṭa - Upapāṭa refers to the qualification of the place of origin. Non-Jain heterodox beings can only be born up to the twelfth heaven. Jain heterodox beings can ascend to the Greveyaka. Samyag-darśi can go anywhere from the first heaven to Sarvāṣṭa-siddha, but those who have the fourteenth consciousness and are restrained do not take birth below the fifth heaven.
5. Anubhava - Anubhava refers to the nature of the world (jagad-dharma). Because of this, all planes and Siddhashila, etc., are situated in the sky without a base. The trembling of the seats of deities during Lord Arihant's birth and coronation is also a work of worldly experience. After the trembling of the seat, through the use of omniscient knowledge, some deities approach the Tirthankara, knowing of His glory, and perform hymns, worship, and other forms of reverence for their own spiritual benefit. Some deities perform worship of the Tirthankara in their own place through rising, offering salutation, obeisance, presents, etc. This is also an act of worldly experience.
22.
Among the deities, Leshyas are yellow, lotus, and white.
23. In the first two heavens, the deities have yellow (tejas) Leshya. From the third to the fifth heavens, the deities have lotus Leshya, and in the sixth to Sarvāṣṭa-siddha, they have white Leshya. This classification pertains to the physical color-type of Leshya, since the six types of feeling Leshya exist in all deities.
_Classification of Types
Prior to the Greveyakas are the types.
24. The types exist before the Greveyakas. Those that include the sections of deities in forms such as Indra, Samanik, Trayastrisha, etc., are called types. There are twelve such types that exist up to the Greveyaka, in other words, from Saudharma to Achyuta. All the heavenly realms above the Greveyaka are beyond types.
