तत्त्वार्थ सूत्र
देवों का कामसुख
कायप्रवीचारा आ-ऐशानात् । ८ ।
शेषाः स्पर्शरूपशब्दमनः प्रवीचारा द्वयोर्द्वयोः । २ ।
परेऽप्रवीचाराः । १० ।
ऐशान कल्प तक के देव कायप्रवीचार होते हैं अर्थात् शरीर से विषयसुख भोगते हैं ।

शेष देव दो-दो कल्पों में क्रमशः स्पर्श, रूप, शब्द और संकल्प द्वारा विषयसुख भोगते हैं ।
अन्य सब देव प्रवीचार से रहित अर्थात् वैषयिक सुखभोग से मुक्त होते हैं ।
भवनपति, व्यन्तर, ज्योतिष्क तथा पहले व दूसरे कल्प के वैमानिक ये सब देव मनुष्य की भाँति शरीर से कामसुख का अनुभव करके प्रसन्न होते है ।
तीसरे कल्प तथा ऊपर के सभी कल्पों के वैमानिक देव मनुष्य के समान सर्वाङ्गीण शरीरस्पर्श द्वारा कामसुख नही भोगते, अपितु अन्यान्य प्रकार से वैषयिक सुख भोगते है । तीसरे और चौथे कल्प के देवो की तो देवियो के स्पर्शमात्र से कामतृप्ति हो जाती है । पाँचवें और छठे स्वर्ग के देव देवियों के सुसज्जित ( श्रृंगारित ) रूप को देखकर ही विषयसुख प्राप्त कर लेते है। सातवे और आठवें स्वर्ग के देवों की कामवासना देवियो के विविध शब्दो को सुनने से पूरी हो जाती है । नवें और दसवे तथा ग्यारहवें और बारहवे इन दो जोड़ों अर्थात् चार स्वर्गो के देवों की वैषयिक तृप्ति देवियो का चिन्तन करने मात्र से हो जाती है । इस तृप्ति के लिए उन्हें न तो देवियो के स्पर्श की, न उनका रूप देखने की और न गीत आदि सुनने की आवश्यकता रहती है । सारांश यह है कि दूसरे स्वर्ग तक ही देवियाँ हैं, ऊपर के कल्पों में नही है । वे जब तृतीय आदि ऊपर के स्वर्गो के देवों को विषयसुख के लिए उत्सुक अर्थात् अपनी ओर आदरशील जानती है तभी वे उनके निकट पहुँचती है । देवियो के हस्त आदि के स्पर्श मात्र से तीसरे चौथे स्वर्ग के देवों की कामतृप्ति हो जाती है । उनके श्रृंगारसज्जित मनोहर रूप को देखने मात्र से पाँचवें और छठे स्वर्ग के देवो की कामलालसा पूर्ण हो जाती है । इसी प्रकार उनके सुन्दर संगीतमय शब्दों के श्रवण मात्र से सातवें और आठवे स्वर्ग के देव वैषयिक आनन्द का अनुभव प्राप्त कर लेते है । देवियों की पहुँच आठवे स्वर्ग तक ही है, ऊपर नही । नवे से बारहवे स्वर्ग तक के देवो की काम-सुखतृप्ति केवल देवियों का चिन्तन करने से ही हो जाती है । बारहवें स्वर्ग से ऊपर के देव शान्त और
