गया संतप्त बाण जलकणों को ग्रहण करता हुआ तथा उन्हे सोखता हुआ चला जाता है, वैसे ही अन्तराल गति के समय कार्मणयोग से चञ्चल जीव भी कर्मवर्गणाओं को ग्रहण करता है और उन्हे अपने साथ मिलाता हुआ स्थानान्तर की ओर गतिमान होता है । ३१ ।
जन्म और योनि के भेद तथा उनके स्वामी सम्मूर्छनगर्भोपपाता जन्म । ३२ । सचित्तशीतसंवृताः सेतरा मिश्राश्चैकशस्तद्योनयः । ३३ । जराय्वण्डपोतजानां गर्भः । ३४ । नारकदेवानामुपपातः । ३५। शेषाणां सम्मूर्छनम् । ३६ । सम्मूर्छन, गर्भ और उपपात ये जन्म के तीन प्रकार है।
सचित्त, शीत और सवृत ये तीन तथा इन तीनों से विपरीत अचित्त, उष्ण और विवृत एवं मिश्र अर्थात् सचित्ताचित्त, शीतोष्ण और संवृतविवृत-जन्म की कुल नौ योनियाँ है।
जरायुज, अण्डज और पोतज प्राणियों का गर्भ-जन्म होता है । नारक और देवों का उपपात-जन्म होता है। शेष सब प्राणियों का सम्मर्छन-जन्म होता है।
जन्म-भेद-पूर्वभव समाप्त होने पर संसारी जीव नया भव धारण करते है । इसके लिए उन्हे जन्म लेना पडता है पर जन्म सबका एक-सा नही होता, यही बात यहाँ बतलाई गई है । पूर्व भव का स्थूल शरीर छोड़ने के बाद अन्तराल गति से केवल कार्मणशरीर के साथ आकर नवीन भव के योग्य स्थूल शरीर के लिए पहले पहल योग्य पुद्गलों को ग्रहण करना जन्म है । जन्म के तीन प्रकार हैसम्मूर्छन, गर्भ और उपपात । माता-पिता के सम्बन्ध के बिना ही उत्पत्तिस्थान में स्थित औदारिक पुद्गलों को पहले पहल शरीररूप मे परिणत करना सम्मूर्छनजन्म है। उत्पत्तिस्थान मे स्थित शुक्र और शोणित के पुद्गलों को पहले पहल शरीर के लिए ग्रहण करना गर्भ-जन्म है । उत्पतिस्थान मे स्थित वैक्रिय पुद्गलों को पहले पहल शरीररूप मे परिणत करना उपपात-जन्म है । ३२ ।
